Found this amazing little place that’s just delicious. They source locally and do farm-to-table. The prix fixe menu changes seasonally, and usually the Chef also does the serving. The steak was perfectly done, and the scallops were so yummy. Highly recommend for a cozy date night or special occasion.

Very small portion one wine and a past 55$ way too much for far too little.

It's taken us too long to try this place, since we live in San Carlos, but now that we've tried it we will be back! In a bustling Laurel St, this small quiet restaurant front is easy to miss. The food is delicious, full of flavor, made from fresh seasonal ingredients - familiar but made with extra touches and care. Henry the chef/owner does everything, so if you come at a busy time like a Friday night, build in some time to wait. But it's worth it. We had 3 different pastas, all amazing, the steak, chicken wings (made better than typical places) and the chopped salad which is so good.

The best food in San Carlos. Everything is fresh and farm to table with a constantly changing menu. Almost don't want to write this review in case this secret spot becomes too well known.

Hidden Gem! It is a little hard to find but worth look for. I been here a few times with my sister for lunch. The food is made with seasonal ingredients. The chef is so kind and friendly. I’ve tried the steak and tomato soup both were delicious. Highly recommend!

This place is so great and it took us way too long to discover it. Most of the restaurants in the Laurel Ave area are deeply mid, and Number 5 really stands out from the pack. The food is fresh, seasonal, and beautifully prepared. The house made pasta is as good as any I’ve had in Italy - great ingredients with simple preparations that allow them to shine. Foraged morels! Local seafood! Service is friendly and professional.
Don’t be fooled by the quiet looking storefront - this place is really, really good, and far better quality food than other options in the area with flashier vibes.

Came for dinner on Thursday. Nice outdoor table for our service dog. We had the Morel mushroom Tagliatelle which was fresh and excellent taste. The 5 beef Pho was 4 beef but the meat was great with a giant rib bone on top. Tasty broth. Henry stopped to chat with us and share dog stories. Very enjoyable experience. Local, fresh, chef-owner, unique. A+

Came here for lunch with my sister and we were very impressed! We couldn't decide on a restaurant to eat at, and we came across Number5 and I'm so glad we did. We asked for a meal that wasn't on the menu and the chef right away offered to make it for us. Fresh ingredients and flavorful dishes! Highly recommend trying the steak with squash and broccolini, so delicious!

What a gem! 4 of us enjoyed most of the menu. Every bite was delicious!
Fresh flavors, perfectly prepared. Wine with 3P pair so well. Simply wonderful.
Do yourself a favor and allow time to savor each bite.

Went here on a date night. We had looked at the menu posted on the website before coming. Half the items in the online menu were not available, including the all the dishes we wanted to order.

We decided to stay anyways. Ambiance was not great. A table full of dirty dishes was left next to us for 30 minutes. Service was slow and food took a long time to come out. The food tasted decent, but the portions were very small (and we are people who don’t typically need to eat a lot to fill up). We had to go to another restaurant after just to get more to eat, which is maybe the first time I’ve ever needed to do that.

I don’t understand how this restaurant is so highly rated since we had a below average experience across the board (service, ambiance, portions)

I came here with a friend since they loved the chef, Henry!

Good:
- Henry was so fun to chat with! He gave us recommendations and also was just a personable person
- The food came out quickly
- The caprese squash salad was so good! I loved how the burrata was flavored with olive oil and squash had texture and crunch
- The breakfast pizza dish was amazing, huge portion sizes and also had so much on them
- The dessert tart was so good too - small but was just what hit the spot for me
- Cute outdoor vibe, we had a nice view of the street and it was a great sunny day

Bad:
- I thought that the bolognese dish was the least unique since it tasted good, but it tasted like what I could get at a high end Italian restaurant

Overall the experience was so fun! I like supporting local restaurants too

I can’t recommend this place enough. I just ate here two nights in a row because it was so good! Such a cozy, warm, delicious gem in the heart of San Carlos. If you like fresh seasonal ingredients, and flavorful dishes that aren’t heavy or too rich this place is for you. The menu is based on what the local farmers bring in that week. I felt like I was enjoying dinner at my friend’s house, it was so comfy.

My partner and I enjoyed squash pizza, heirloom tomato caprese salad, bolognese pasta (my fav!), flat iron steak, and petrole sole. Looking forward to coming here again.
