Good food nice patrons good selection of beers. I like going here during football Sunday but I have to say the last few times I’ve been I did not feel welcomed by some staff members. I always keep to myself and are friendly when approached and as soon as my game is over I always thank the bartender before I leave. I even moved to a different spot when I was asked to just to watch my game on another tv bc someone else wanted to watch on the tv I was sitting near and I happily moved yet I was given the cold shoulder and even skipped service during my stay. It’s not all but some staff members made me feel as if I was not welcomed. I’ll give it a try again and hopefully it’ll be better. I do, however, encourage people to try it bc it is a nice place to watch a game.

We had a nice table outside. Not super fancy but that's exactly what we were looking for to have a quick bite and a beer before going to the airport. Really yummy fondue and generous serving of bread and crackers hit the spot.

A really fun place for a laid back atmosphere with great service and food. We really enjoyed their pretzel fondue which came with tasty soft pretzel sticks and a variety of roasted bread. The cheese was amazing and filling. Ran out of bread before the cheese ran out which is rare with fondue.

Great place for decent bar food and drinks. And if you're a sports fan, plenty of screens to watch a popular game. Service is always friendly, place is clean, and crowd is pleasant.

Mushroom burger was outrageously cheesy 1000/10. French fries were delicious. Although I did order garlic fries. But neither here nor there. Friends loved the beer. And the Calamari was also very good. Definitely still delicious after all these years.

I think this place deserves the 4.3 average review ranking.
Given its location, you would expect it to be a lot worse. I find the enclosed patio area a nice perk. The addition of fans, fire pits, and heat lamps is an appreciated touch given the seasons/weather can flip in this area. The indoor seating area and bar are perfectly fine too. It is that sorta’ bric-a-brac place, but specific to the location itself. I always find it odd when corporate chains try to do the same thing. It comes off as forced. Here? It feels like it belongs with the sense of place they are creating. The one thing to note is that some of the seating near the fire pits is very, very low. But almost all seats have sightlines for the numerous TVs if you are there to watch sports, etc. Overall, an inviting, come as you are, vibe.
The prices? They keep going up. But that applies everywhere. Moving on.
The menu? Lots of options, though I noticed they got rid of some of the options they had the last time I was here. Good selection of drafts. Haven’t tried wine or mixed drinks, though my friends say they are perfectly fine.
The staff? There are always lots of them. At some points, it can actually be hard to tell who is waiting on you, who is clearing plates, etc. Thing is, I wouldn’t say that they are consistently on-point when it comes to service. Not that it is bad. It is just that there are often odd ‘gaps’ in service. One minute, they are on top of you with refills. The next minute, you can’t flag a person down. And they are, to the one, polite and customer-focused . . . when you have their attention. My guess? High turnover, which translates into issues with training. Then again, they are lucky to have as many staff as they do these days. So, I give them a bit of a break on this.
The food? For a place of this type in the greater Bay Area, I think it is fantastic. The Hangover Burger is a thing of beauty. And they ask you how you want it cooked and then actually cook it as you requested! Imagine! The fried calamari is well plated, crispy, and includes additional bits of artichoke and red bell pepper (though I might have noticed a ratio shift this most recent visit). Sides are generously portioned. Appetizers are the same. If you order two sides, they don’t end up skimping on one of them (something that happens at other places).
Some of the negative reviews are precious. “Sad place. No NASCAR race on TV on Sundays. Very little customers.” Oh no, no NASCAR?!?! And did you mean to suggest the patrons are diminutive in size? A delivery issue but the food was “decent” . . . and one star?!?! The fan complaint is hilarious. You do realize that a properly working fan creates movement, right? Granted, some of the complaints have the faint echo of legitimate gripes (similar to my criticisms above). But, boy oh boy, some people are into scorched Earth reviews when the world offends them. My advice? Give them another chance. Talk to the management. Provide specifics (save if you are complaining about fans that blow air around or about wee people patronizing a non-NASCAR establishment; in those cases, you already over-shared and less is certainly more).
Overall, I would recommend this place. In fact, I wish there were more spots like this closer to home. But, after a visit to Devil’s Canyon, this place certainly hits the spot. If they could get the processes with customer service locked down, I think it would move the review average up above 4.5 (even if it isn’t as big of a problem as some make it seem).
Thanks for another good visit!
