We love love LOVE The Madonna Inn! My husband and I have been to the steakhouse a few times now and this was our first time going to The Copper Cafe for our niece's 10th birthday. Everyone was so kind and patient with our larger group of 9, 4 of them being children. Our food was so good and the slices of cake that we had were delicious. The aesthetic and ambiance can't be topped and my niece loved getting to walk around and look at everything before spending some of her birthday money in the gift shop. We can't wait to visit again!
$$ for eggs and toast. The cake was very good and quite shareable. The eggs and hash browns were common. The coffee! Great!
Fun place with mediocre food. We got there mid- Sunday afternoon and it was very busy and was loud with children, too. The waiter could barely hear us give our order. Later on, when the crowd thinned out, suddenly it was like a different place. We could hear ourselves talk and could enjoy the fun surroundings. Take a tour of the dining room and downstairs bathroom. So much attention to detail, very unique and fun.
Had a club sandwich on GF bread. Best I've had. Others in the party had BLT, soup & sandwich, and hamburger. All of us enjoyed all of it. Hostess was very nice and accommodating getting us a requested table near a window. Décor was very interesting. Only minor complaint was that it got pretty noisy on and off (but not the worst I've experienced).
There is no other place on earth like the Madonna Inn. Impossible not to love the entire experience! The ambiance and food are excellent.
Madding Inn should be experienced at least once in your lifetime. It is iconic and one of a kind. The Copper Cafe was very nice and the food was good, service was very good. Don't forget to go to the bathroom downstairs to see the special urinal in the men's bathroom (sorry for men only). Explore the rest too, see the main dining room and all the beautiful woodwork throughout.
Fun eclectic restaurant that is heavily decorated with copper featured memorabilia and interesting glasses. Had the basic breakfast with eggs and bacon. Had the homemade biscuits that are fresh made daily. Food was served well prepared and hot. Table service was great. Plan to return. Good going 👏
Of course the ambiance is fantastic - over the top, colorful and joyous - but the service and food were also a delight! Great place to stop while on a central coast road trip. Don't miss the gift shops! 💕
Service is slow. The food is good nothing spectacular but very large portions.
The cake was huge a definite. Just share. They had good Chocolate Chip cookies.
Incredible! Lovely morning at the Madonna Inn. Couldn't stay there, but made sure to dine there! The hostess seated us at a nice little table in the corner near the fireplace. It was a quieter morning (Monday) so I felt like I got the chance to look at at the decor, etc. without being rushed or crammed (not that they would do that, but I imagined it would've been much busier on a weekend morning and I would have felt in the way). I got the dollar-sized pancakes and my boyfriend got the two eggs/breakfast meat plate. Both were very delicious - classic and diner-y - just what I want in breakfast. Our server was incredible. He was friendly and attentive, and offered to take a picture of us before I even had the chance to ask. I wish I could recall his name. His friendliness truly made an impact on our morning!

In all my visits to San Luis Obispo, I've never visited the Madonna Inn, until my last visit. I was missing out, our meals were delicious, beyond our expectations. The Copper Cafes menu has many tasty meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On Saturday they also offered a Steakhouse Menu, which we ordered from and we were blown away. The service was spot on, even as they got busy and the restaurant filled up shortly after we arrived. The eclectic decor was charming and made you feel as if you were in an enchanted mid-century french cafe. The Inn has many charming amenities that you can walk through and explore without being a registered guest, it truly is a unique landmark of San Luis Obispo.
Well I knew better than to attempt to dine at a restaurant like this at such a peak time of the day, noon, on a Sunday. They were clearly understaffed and couldn't handle the pressure. It's a bit shocking that an established restaurant like this was so poorly prepared for business for the day. I have always loved this place and hope they make the necessary adjustments to continue to draw customers. I'm sure they lost some business and turned off many customers who chose to stay and dine. Our food was okay, though not so special as I recall from previous visits. Service was adequate once we were finally greeted by our waitress after a twenty minute wait at our table for her to come by. It was a painful wait. But we got our order in and the food arrived after a while, the kitchen was struggling too. Our waitress did check on us and kind of redeemed our experience somewhat. I would have enjoyed looking around a bit more in the gift shops and such, but we were just a bit too disgusted by our overall experience to do so today.
This is always a must stop for breakfast lunch or dinner, love coming here and the food is always great.
Always fun eating at Madonna Inn! We were celebrating my son's 20 birthday and we were surprised when they brought out a complimentary giant piece of coconut cream pie, his favorite, for him! Thanks Copper Kettle and Madonna Inn!
The “lite and vegan” section of the menu is neither lite nor vegan. Not a great meal. Will not eat here again. Also the server was terrible.
