Went here on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted right away. Everyone who works there is so nice. One of the ladies from the back brought out some egg rolls for our daughter. This is a great place to take the whole family. I felt like I a regular. After going, I will be. The food not only tastes great, but the portions are great. They also have plenty of parking which is hard to find in SLO.

J&L fulfilled a catering order for my university club. Were ordered a wide variety and large quantity and they handled it perfectly. Extremely nice and assisted in loading my car upon pickup. The food was great.

Located on Broad, in the newer, beautiful, center, is J&L Hawaiian BBQ. When you walk-in, you are greeted and have the register, with the menu above, right in front of you. We ordered Katsu Chicken Meals. They don't have fountain drinks, cans it was. A short wait later, she brought our food to us. She saw our daughter and then said, "I'll make her Egg Rolls." Sure enough, she came back with two, fresh, egg rolls. Mind blown! The level of customer service, next level. Best part is, their Katsu Chicken, salty, juicy, peppery, flavorful love. Rice, fluffy and perfect consistency. Clean Rice. Macaroni salad delivering that much needed creaminess, sweetness, to counter the vinegar/pepper/tart/sweetness of the Katsu sauce. Coming all together for a depth of flavors in each bite! So, outstanding customer service and then great food, equals 5/5. *Only 3 negatives. 1.Get a Coke Fountain Machine 2. They can't really do anything, the whole area, not just their place, has a sewer smell. 3. Another they can't really do anything about is when they built these restaurants, they made communal restrooms, that are open to the public (pretty dirty and graffiti)

Food is so yummy! My favorite is the Kalbi Short Rib plate, always satisfies. Service is quick and efficient. 10/10

Best Hawaiian food in SLO! Stumbled upon this restaurant and so happy I found it. Would recommend!

I am pleasantly surprised by how the Katsu Chicken tasted just like Taiwanese Chicken Steak. The crispy exterior and tender interior make it a delightful dish.

It actually crazy that a Hawaiian BBQ place opens in my fourth year at Cal Poly. A classic Hawaiian BBQ in SLO with no complaints except for the fact that it's just opened. Plus, Chicken Katsu AND short rib come on one plate as well? Need I say more?

Best Hawaiian bbq in SLO county. Very small, family run business that never lets me down. I have tried almost everything on there menu and they absolutely kill it. Everything comes out fresh and hot. Yea there is a bit of wait time but that is only because they cook everything to order. Stop in and try it, you won't regret it.

Very good food. Cheap as hell for what you get. Lady at the front is super kind and service is exceptional. Only thing was that it was a bit salty but that's preference so that don't matter. Overall very enjoyable experience. Will definitely be coming back!

This place is so good!!! I always judge a Hawaiian BBQ place by their Mac Salad and the one here is great. Lots of plate lunch options and fun things to try. They should start selling Hawaiian Suns, though! For me that is a plate lunch staple.

J&L is a delicious and casual new Hawaiian barbecue spot in the old Oki Momo location (which is fondly missed by myself). Absolutely classic Hawaiian plate lunch style menu with proper mayo rich Mac salad (I love Nobu Hawaiian BBQ but their Mac salad is odd). The barbecue chicken was grilled fresh butterflied thigh and was slightly charred, moist and perfect with the sauce given in a little cup on the side. The fried fish was super crunchy and flaky, so delicious with the fluffy rice and Mac salad. I also had the crab Rangoon which were super crunchy and warm and not at all oily. This place is a must visit whether you are new to Hawaiian style barbecue or are already a big fan. The prices are also reminiscent of pre COVID days and I hope they stick around for a long time. The plates come in a huge variety of combos so you'll find one to suit your tastes.Vegetarian options: Not a lot of vegetarian options, you would likely be stuck with a variety of tasty side dishes but may be unsatisfied.Kid-friendliness: Very casual and kid friendly. One of the staffs' (owner?) kid was there in a basinet behind the counter. The simple fried dishes and relatively unseasoned BBQ chicken (great sauce on the side the chicken was definitely salted perfect) make easy choices for kids.Wheelchair accessibility: Very open dining room with plenty of space to find a comfy spot.
