Seems like they have problems getting the orders out on time and the service is lackadaisical and unfriendly. Also, it smells weird in there.

We found the food to be overpriced and not reflective of the authentic Punjabi flavors we’re accustomed to. Surprisingly, no bowls were available for the dal, and the biryani included unusual ingredients like kala chana, mushrooms, and heavy cream. The aloo dum dish tasted more like a variation of paneer chilli but with potatoes instead. Service was underwhelming and slow, despite the restaurant being nearly empty during lunch hours. The bathroom had no paper towels or hand dryer. The menu outside was not updated and indicated that rice would be provided per table, but inside menu said othewise. Overall, the high prices don't justify the quality of food or service.

I found one of the best place to have Indian Cuisine, Had vegetarian thali which was delicious and quantity wise it was enough to fill single person appetite

Totally trash, the whole restaurant was empty not a single customer. The girl serving there seemed like she was kidnapped and forced by the owners to work there. The food was below average, the girl gave me rotten onion salad and charged me $3.99 for it.

They took 1.5hrs to make my order. Started working on my order once I got there and made me wait 30 mins by keep saying 2 mins every few mins. Non apologetic behavior even after messing up the order and wasting my time. Would not recommend wasting time here as they don’t value customer’s time.

The servers are racist towards families of color. From the beginning, the lady server was very rude and unwelcoming. We requested for a change of glass, she asked us what is the problem. Well, just change it. We requested for bowls for dal, she said we charge extra for empty bowls or plates. We requested for salad on side, she again gave a long lecture on charging extra when we had to finally ask her to stop making our lunch a rude interview. While on other side, she went and asked white families around 8 times with smiling faces if they needed anything or if they wanted anything more. You can see in other reviews as well where others mentioned they are non welcoming to people of color. We would never be coming back here. In summary, if you want to act racist or do not want to serve the families, please say no in first place because people don't come all the way to touristic towns to deal with such non sense. Grow up, the world has moved beyond racism 100 years ago.

Jewel of India is hands down my favorite restaurant in town — it’s truly a gem for anyone who loves authentic Punjabi cuisine and soulful food. Every single dish I’ve tried here has been absolutely delicious, from the thoughtful presentation to the rich, layered flavors. It’s more than a meal — it’s food for the soul.

The menu offers so many wonderful options, and every person I’ve brought here has raved about how much they loved their food. Whether you’re new to Indian food or already a big fan, there’s something here for everyone.

What makes this place so special is not only the incredible food but the welcoming atmosphere and consistency in quality. The dishes are always perfectly spiced, deeply flavorful, and made with care. From classics to house specialties, you can really taste the authenticity and love in every bite.

If you are looking for the best Indian food in San Luis Obispo, look no further than Jewel of India. This is a place that I return to again and again — and it never disappoints. Highly recommend!

The food was really good. One of the best authentic Indian food we had tried in the USA. We got the combination platter with lamb and the tikka masala. The gulab jamun was also really good. Loved every dish we tried. The service was also very nice. We enjoyed the meal.

My Shrimp dish was actually delicious, however food service was pretty slow which just overshadowed the meal.

$14.45 Wednesday special at food truck in SLO, all pre-made, pre-wrapped, naan was dried, chicken breast not season enough, kinna bland, rice also dried, the sautéed onion n cabbage was good, the only ingredient has this 1 star rating, not so special. We noticed other faces, also expresses disappointed.
