A friend and I were enjoying the Thursday Night Market when we happened upon Old Slo BBQ giving out free samples of tri tip, pulled pork & ribs. Trying the tri tip, I was pleasantly surprised about the flavor and the texture of the meat, which was quite tender. The young gentleman at the front then tells us that there's a $5 discount on the tri tip sandwich which sold me and my friend and I waited in line for 30min to get this sandwich.
About an hour after trying them out to when we finally got our food, I was shocked. Not only was the tri tip sandwich quite small for a normal $15 price tag (perhaps the $5 discount means you get the small? No one told us) but half the tri tip in the sandwich was raw. Inedibly raw. I swear I poked the raw meat and the sandwich giggled (bad joke).
It was an awful experience. I considered talking to the staff about it, but they were so slammed and stressed that I decided to cut my loss and write this review to hopefully warn other customer & hopefully get management to avoid letting something like this happen. I mean you can see in the picture my hoagie bun was quite bloody..

Old Slo BBQ catered the food for our daughter’s wedding at Flying Caballos Ranch and they were absolutely amazing! The food was delicious across the board! A number of guests commented that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding (and they’ve been to a lot of weddings!)! It could not have gone any better - highly recommend using Old Slo BBQ for your events in the San Luis Obispo area!

Old SLO BBQ consistently has the best tri-tip in town. It's well seasoned and always SO tender. I've noticed some of the other places in town can be hit or miss with the tenderness of their tri-tip, but Old SLO is consistently amazing. They can be a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it for quality tri-tip every visit.

I love the options, especially the candied tri-tip sliders. It’s always a quick and easy lunch pick up. They do a great job catering office lunches, as well.

This is my favorite tritip place in SLO, or anywhere for that matter. Even if it's just a one day trip through college memory lane, hard to beat Old San Luis BBQ.

I ordered the tri-tip combo plate and understand why they are known for their tri-tip. It was absolutely delicious - meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. Their sauces are homemade, i got the bbq and ranch, but the meat didn't need it.
As a side, I ordered the apple cucumber coleslaw - it was incredibly fresh and light on the mayo. I could have easily used an extra side of it!
I also tried the sweet potato fries, which i might order well done next time. The garlic bread is unremarkable. Next time I'll skip it and ask for more coleslaw!

I ordered the candied bacon tri tip slider cowboy corn and fries to go my order was 10min late no biggie but when I got my food I was really disappointed ? the slider is a small roll with maybe two pieces of meat the candied bacon is kinda hard the cowboy corn is a small serving and reminds me more of cornbread the fries are a good portion but they were soggy I personally will most likely pass on coming here again

Walking distance from the Mission SLO. Excellent flavors of meat but coleslaw was not my favorite. Meat options are tender, fall off the bone and have an excellent Smokey flavor. Excellent spot during the farmers market. Walk up window is wheelchair accessible. A/C, handicap tables and bathrooms are available inside. Excellent customer service and store is clean.
Parking: Parking lot and street parking are well lit, easy to access off the street and handicap spots are available.
Kid-friendliness: Shakes and fries are available for kids. Seating area has a lot of options for all kids.
Wheelchair accessibility: Order window is right off the sidewalk. Sidewalk is accessible from the street and the parking lot. No steps or ramps to enter the seating area and bathroom areas.
