Great authentic and tasty food. It is as though I sat in mylapore and had my favorite dishes and filter coffee.

Place not look very fancy but the food is fantastic

Tried 2 Karaa dosa, 1 Mylapore special dosa, 1 poori, 1 porotta, and 1 plate idly here. Idly was just ok. Poori with masala potato curry was really good, and the porotta was also good. Karaa dosa was spicy and the quantity was good. They served sweet for no cost which is very tasty like Annavaram prasadam. This gesture is very good. The Mylapore special dosa (with cheese and karaa) wasn’t as great as suggested by the staff—we were planning for 3 Karaa dosa but tried this instead, and it was a bit disappointing. At-last we had filter coffee and it is very good. They are also offering Coffee with Jaggery or Sugar. You can choose either of them.

Overall, poori and porotta were the best, and Karaa dosa is fine if you like it spicy.

Absolutely delicious South Indian menu. Sambar was so flavorful, idlis were soft fluffy and rava kesari tasted great too. Portion sizes are large and filling. Filter coffee was so good! Highly recommend this place if you are in the area. I really appreciate that they use compostable cutlery and plates. Very welcoming ambience

Food choices (especially the Dosas and items in the daily hot lunch) are not the same as it used to be. Service is great and it’s not self-service at this location which is not bad. It’s kept clean and there are seats available whenever we visit

We ordered countless times since it first opened in San Ramon. Recently we noticed that the food quality has gone completely bad. Not sure if it is change in management or chef.

The sambar and chutney are now completely watered down, portion sizes reduced. Restaurant is cutting every corner. You have lost one loyal customer today.

Would advise others to skip this place as well.

The quality at this restaurant has been steadily declining. The food no longer tastes good, and it certainly doesn’t offer any value for the money. Recently, we placed a takeout order and were disappointed to find that they don’t offer dosas for takeout, unlike other similar establishments. If the owner believes dosas aren’t suitable for takeout due to sogginess, they should reconsider offering uttapams, which we found even worse. We ordered a tomato uttapam, and it was outright terrible—undercooked and unappetizing. The accompanying sambhar and chutneys were equally disappointing. Given this experience, we won’t be returning, and we certainly can’t recommend this place. There are much better alternatives nearby. If Idli Express can’t maintain the quality of its food, it may be time for them to reconsider their place in the food business.

The service here was great. We stayed longer than the restaurant was even open and the staff brought us dessert outside complimentary. The restaurant's name is Idly Express and that is something to be noted as this is really a quick stop eat type place. The bree dosa was nice and crispy however the masala and chutneys were to be desired. The chutneys were pureed a little too much and were very cold and frothy. The allu masala had too much starch released and lacked flavor. It would have been nice to have an achar or spicier flavor too.

After more than fifteen years in the US we finally have a place serving authentic, fresh, South Indian breakfast. And right here in San Ramon! The idlis are soft and fluffy, the sambar is hot, the vadas are crisp. It is food for the soul ❤️ Also love the to go options, including savory snacks, sweets!
