A friend from work suggested we tried this restaurant based on the fact that it is located with wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean. It's highly recommended that you get reservations and we had an early one for a group of five. The decor is a bit dated but it is classic in the aesthetic we were warmly greeted and shown to our seats. I'm very quickly brought bread to the table however it was cold and so was the butter. We were offered a wine list and informed about the specials of the day. I chose to go with the crab cakes as an appetizer and the Crab Louie as my entree. The crab cakes were quite small however the sauce was amazing however I did not think the Chutney was a great flavor combination with the crab cakes. The Crab Louie was really big and feeling and loaded with a lot of crap. Overall I think I would want to maybe try other items but I wasn't quite impressed with our outing on this night.

The view is great from here, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge and Angel Island with floor to ceiling windows. Staff were friendly and service was quick.
Food was okay, it was delicious but not very memorable or special. The salmon was good though and serving sizes were huge.
Good for any group size, plenty of choices from their menu.

The Spinnaker is a long-established restaurant with great views. We only had cocktails this visit, but the service and drinks were exceptional as usual! This was a nice break while shopping in Sausalito!

I don’t normally post negative reviews because I don’t need that kind of energy in my life. But I’m making an exception for The Spinnaker to keep others from making an expensive mistake.
The backstory: I have a big birthday this year and am auditioning restaurants for a group dinner. This place is firmly off the list.
Pros: We had a comfortable window seat with a great view. And we got to watch a very cute bird fish for its dinner.
Cons: Literally everything else. That bird got fresher seafood than anything we experienced.
The bad vibes were evident at the host stand, where we weren’t so much greeted as ordered to take our table. The service was earnest but slow and unpolished at best. We overheard our server telling the party next to us that their complaint had nothing to do with her. (They did seem very sour.)
We probably should have known from the laminated menus that this place was going to be lackluster. A laminated menu means the kitchen isn’t trying new things too often.
My drink was good, but my husband’s old fashioned was pretty much straight bourbon. No craftsmanship at all. It was a good thing we ordered our appetizer with our drinks, because we didn’t see our server again for another 25 minutes.
About the appetizer: The crab cakes were dry and bland, with no discernible crab flavor. Really, no discernible flavor at all. The 2 cakes were small for the price and seemed to be all breading. Plus, they were lukewarm. We did not finish them.
We ordered our mains when the server made her leisurely way back around. (The restaurant was not full. Servers were doing side work out in the open at empty tables.) I ordered the macadamia-crusted petrale sole filet, and my husband ordered the squid ink pasta. We also ordered a bottle of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, which is one of my favorite wines from Marlborough.
The wine came quickly, but it was barely chilled, and it took our server 15 minutes to come back with a chiller. Not even an ice bucket…just a stainless steel contraption. Now, Cloudy Bay generally retails for $48 to $55, so to see it on a restaurant wine list for $77 seemed like a good deal. Wrong. This wine was a few years old, and you really don’t want to age your Sauvignon Blancs. It was missing its characteristic zippiness and tropical fruit flavors. It tasted bland, like the rest of the food.
My petrale sole was nicely cooked, with a crisp brown crust. But it tasted of nothing, even when liberally doctored with the salt and pepper that’s on every table. My husband’s pasta was also bland and lukewarm. We only ate a few bites before pushing our plates aside.
Our still-full plates didn’t prevent our server from approaching us with laminated dessert menus. She showed no curiosity at all as to why our food was mostly uneaten.
We left as quickly as possible. Skip this place and travel the extra 10 minutes into San Francisco if you want a good meal. As an added insult, our bill was only about $50 less than our bill for a recent dinner at Rich Table, which was a fabulous experience and one of the best meals I’ve had.

Food was wonderful
Service was excellent.
Atmosphere 5 star with panoramic view of the Sausalito bay.
Worth enjoying if you're in Sausalito. Not as expensive as some of the other restaurants in the area.
Worth every bit.
Wide selection of top shelf wines.

Stopped by for lunch on the way from the airport up to Napa. They have a great lunch special! The views are amazing, especially if you get sat next to the windows.

We started with the clam chowder (the menu does not say but it is Boston style, Very Good) and then had the crab Louis (Excellent) and halibut picatta (Good) followed by the tiramisu (Excellent). The view was spectacular. I'd be happy to return.
Sand in the clams. Only one side got good views. The other side is just hundreds of birds pooping
