This is an amazing place to stay in a very chill town. The building is beautiful and historic with modern upgrades and it just makes me want to live here! Located right next to post office, general store and restaurant. The owner Rob is extremely favorable towards hikers and lovers of nature, the prices are more than reasonable, and this hotel is the exact center of the good vibes galaxy.

Really wonderful place with great rooms, cozy beds and warm showers, great hiking community of people who stayed there at the same time we did. Extremely unique and worth staying.

It is an awesome hotel with lots of history. Rob, the owner, is also super nice and very hiker friendly. Perfect stay for my PCT hike.

We had a great time staying in Old Sierra Hotel. Rob, the inn keeper, is very welcoming and friendly, we enjoyed chatting with him. Beautiful old bar downstairs with the original interior. Rooms are minimalist but clean and cozy. Perfect location: in a walking distance from the cafe, and right across the street from the general store.

A real relic of the California gold rush, this hotel/bar/restaurant was built in the 1880's in Sierra City along the North Yuba River on Golden Chain Hwy 49. The age of the building gives it a character that is getting harder to find in our modern world.Though panning for gold is still a recreational option, the Sierra Buttes offer world class mountain biking, PCT trail hiking, fishing, kayaking, snowshoeing, x-country skiing and snow mobile riding, or ride your motorcycle up one of the most scenic canyons in northern California.Of course, being in love with the area and the innkeeper here, I have nothing but glowing praise for Sierra City and it's fine and caring inhabitants. Please come see what I am talking about!
Awesome room, great location, and great hosipitality from Rob! I'll be staying here with every visit to Downieville, 10/10!

Awesome night at @oldsierracityhotel in Sierra City. The hotel, a gold-rush-era relic, mostly open to through-hikers on the PCT, doesn't have a license to serve alcohol, but Rob, the innkeeper and semi-retired musician, let us sit at the bar, drink our byob, and shoot pool on the de-quartered table while he played country songs on his guitar. I can't say enough good things about this place. Rob's hospitality was exceptional. If you're riding Downieville, stop by on your way through Sierra City and say hi to him, and maybe you'll get "Robbed" just like us.
Rustic, charming, and peaceful. Rob is a great host and talented musician. Relaxing on the upper deck or the front porch, trading life experiences, and enjoying peace and quiet. Close by river, and many trails to hike, or bike.Your not far from Reno, or Truckee and your drive is through a beautiful canyon surrounded by forest.
really cool place and even cooler people
Great hosts and a great spot to relax and spend night!!
