Golden Leaves Vineyard & Winery

I was given a warm welcome by the owners (Josy and Alex) as soon as I walked in the tasting room door and offered some freshly baked (rye) bread. This immediately felt like it was going to be a pleasurable experience and it certainly was.

I enjoyed the bread/butter and conversation with Alex (a fellow electrical engineer turned winemaker) while Josy retreated to the kitchen to make some soup. Both soups (pumpkin and shrimp bisque) were delicious but I highly recommend the shrimp bisque for it’s creaminess and abundant shrimp, I initially thought I wanted to try the lamb stew but Josy recommended a plate with butternut squash with Petite Sirah, tri-tip and broccoli and I was not disappointed. The squash was cooked perfectly with the Petite Sirah sauce and the tri-tip had a perfect amount of smokiness.

Now that my stomach was happy I opted the the 5 glass wine tasting of 2020 Chardonnay, 2022 Estate Tempranillo Dark Rosé, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Zinfandel and 2017 Reserve Heritage Blend Zinfandel. Since I’m a fan of Angelica dessert wine I added the 2023 Angelica Dessert Wine to my tasting. My previous experience with Angelica was with Mission grapes so the chardonnay was a totally different experience. Maybe because I just came from a 12+ port tasting event that my pallet was still looking for more fruity sweetness so this was the bottle I went home with.

It’s clear that the owners take great pride in their food, wine, and hospitality. So if you’re a wine connoisseur and craving some yummy homestyle cooking, Golden Leaves Vineyard & Winery is definitely worth a visit. This was my first visit to this winery and it won’t be my last. In the words of Josy and Alex “it’s not just a vineyard, it’s an experience”.

The wine's great and we had a Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat.

We had my son and new daughter in law's wedding rehersal dinner here and it was wonderful. Alex and Josy made it a night to remember with their delicious dinner to the wonderful desserts. We couldn't ask for a better place to celebrate. Thank you for making it so special for us. I very much recommend having your next event here. You will not regret it.

I’m afraid to leave a good review because everyone will want to visit but this is the BEST place in Fair Play. The owners are very knowledgeable about their grapes and wines. Definitely worth visiting and talking to the owners

Absolutely a delightful time! The owners/wine makers are an absolute joy to spend time with and the wine just makes it better! The food pairings are delicious . Not to be missed and worth the drive. Can't express how much we loved visiting ❤️

We found very good wine, food and conversation at Golden Leaves during our visit to the Fair Play area. Alex and Josey are the definition of life long learners having taken on the challenge of learning viticulture and winemaking from the ground up after retirement. They are enthusiastic and willing to share their experiences and knowledge. We enjoyed out visit greatly.

We had a delightful experience at Golden Leaves. Josy and Alex were so friendly and accommodating to the 6 of us. Lunch was delicious. Thank you, Josy! Wine was great and Alex gave us the added benefit of his vast knowledge. Highly recommend Golden Leaves when visiting the Somerset area.

A true gem of an experience. My boyfriend and I just happened in because we were starving and the sign mentioned food. I’m so, so happy we did! Josy and Alex treated us like we were walking into their home. They came up with the most personalized, amazing food, wine, and dessert service I’ve ever had. Every single thing they make, from bottle to plate, is so thoughtfully and expertly crafted. We walked away members of our first ever wine club! I can’t wait to come up next quarter!

Phenomenal wines, delicious food and desserts, and kind vintners! What more could you ask for in a winery?

Great tasting room experience with food pairings for delicious wines and stories from the lovely proprietors

We visited Golden Leaves as part of the Winecation food and wine event. We had not been here before.Our hosts and owners Alex and Josie were very personable, friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the wine and food pairing immensely. The food (cassoulet, salad and pastry) was delicious. The wine was very good and well matched to the food.A wonderful discovery, we look forward to going back.

Alex and Josy are perfect hosts. They are friendly and can recommend wines for your personal tastes. Alex brought me on a tour of the vineyards, showing the differences in the grape clusters of the different varieties. The couple also has homemade seasonal food choices that pair with their wines as well as satisfy your hunger. Their large AIR CONDITIONED tasting room has large, comfortable tables. The views are great, the visitors are friendly. This is definitely worth a stop.
