California Fish Grill

got takeout and on way home car was filled with fish smell. To be safe I microwaved fish and it seemed ok but got to a part that just smelled and tasted so gross I had to spit it out. They sent me survey and I said how bad the fish was.They asked if I'd like someone to get it touch with me and I said Yes! But no one ever did. That's worse than the bad fish. So , no , I would not recommend California Fish Grill and I won't be eating there again!

I had honestly the best experience I’ve ever had at a California Fish Grill location today here in Southgate California. I’ve been coming to California Fish Grill since 2001 when I used to work in the city of Compton and they were always quite busy so they didn’t really have a lot of time to give you the best service, the food was amazing but the service wasn’t stellar. Today was the first time in 24 years that I was actually acknowledged by someone in either management or in service. I had a great and warm welcome by a gentleman by the name of Gustavo, I saw him welcoming everyone the in the same manner.
I saw him speak to people that spoke Spanish, people that speak English - blue-collar white collar alike, a so I told him I said I like that he did that because it sets the standard for the feeling and it’s all about the feeling. He made me feel seen we had a conversation about the restaurant, it’s history, the various locations and the sustainability of the seafood, and he spoke a little bit about the kitchen and the kitchen staff , and honestly that’s what it’s all about it’s about -humanizing the people behind the name and I felt seen for the first time of 24 years at one of your locations and it was just an amazing feeling. If this guy is not a manager yet please make him one because he has something special he’s got some sort of special charisma that you don’t see in 2025 anymore. I am going to make this my default location, no longer will I travel to Downey or Gardena, this is the one as long as Gustavo is working I will be there. Thank you for listening and I hope this gets to your team . And by the way the Atlantic Salmon was cooked to perfection! I also got a side of the shrimp scampi and a side of kale slaw and zucchini. All in all it was a great experience today.

Server Lucia and manager Gustavo were extremely kind! I decided to try the new Island bowl and was not disappointed. The food was delicious and though I picked the fried fish, it sat well with me even though I have IBS. I would like to come back and try the other menu items. I’m pleased to find healthier options in my city ☺️

Fish and chips are awesome. Shrimp skewer is delicious. Good value for the price.

I don’t get the guys name at the front but he was so welcoming and nice. Checked in to see how the food was and I could hear him hyping up the cooks on the back! He was telling them it was going to be a great day. The food was also very fresh and delish!
