This place should update their hours online. We came at 8:50am and it was indeed closed when listing says they open at 8am.

Food was great. Pictures provided are of both the "milanesa de pollo" plate and a small plate order of beef "empanada". The empanada dough melts and the meat is very well braised also tender. The milanesa plate is a great mix of savory and sweet (onions on top give the sweet factor). I requested extra of the onions. I also forgot to mention that the chipotle homemade sauce that accompanies the "empanada" was an incredible pair. I did not try any "postres" (desserts).Only complaint I have unrelated to the food: suggest they buy softer napkins. The napkins provided are so rough on the skin. I came by at around 9am on a Wednesday and I suggest this time when it is not jam packed. The service is much more attentively when there are less customers. Lastly, can be a little pricey in my opinion so its not a place I would eat every week. I paid a total of $20.93 for 2 items (no drinks), in addition to tip.

Mango Agua fresca tasted off like they had rot on a mango but threw it in anyway. The food was OK. Got chilaquiles and they had good flavor. The lemonade was very tasty. Overall an average experience. There's no parking so you'll have to park down the street at the liquor store.

I've tried many of their menu items and you really can't go wrong with them!! The chilaquiles are my go to along with the agua de pepino. Everything is just sooo good!! Highly recommend :)

After having a hard time finding a restaurant that had minimal wait time I came across this place, I order the chilaquiles verdes with a Velma’s macchiato, the chilaquiles were good! The meat was nice and tender and the tortilla tasted homemade and the coffee was delicious I was tempted to order a second one! This place is a hole in the wall for sure! I would recommend coming here!

Very delicious, a modern but yet authentic Mexican food! I had the red chilaquiles with birria and chipotle potatoes, everything was packed with flavors that bring you back to Mexico!

Leaving a double 5 star review. First is for the food and service we received. Chilaquiles were great and so was the waffle we had. Second 5 stars are for the after. My car died outside. I came back a couple hours later and waited for a tow. It was super hot. The same server / owner (I assume, didn't catch his name) Came out and brought me a cup of ice cold water with out being asked. This is what retail and food service is missing. Thanks again Velmas for the above and beyond service. I will be recommending this place, no doubt.

Beef birria nachos are a must! Burrito and quesadillas are single portioned but tasty. The Jalapeno penne pasta is very creamy and a little spicy. They unfortunately don't have any horchata here but their aguas are just as refreshing. Overall great hole in the wall, limited seating inside and outside, definitely recommend walking in!

Food and ambiance are not the same since the original owner sold. Agua de Jamaica had an after taste. Grilled fish was very salty. Empanadas have gotten smaller and their staple starter dish, Fried Chayotes have doubled in price.

Their cappuccino is good and a decent size but their food portions are small and food is just okay. The empanadas are way too small (and dry) for the price. Paid $3 for strawberries on a waffle and got 5 thin slices of a strawberry. Not sure what happened to Velma's it used to be better...

Velma's was such an adorable quaint Cafe. The staff is super sweet and attentive. I ordered two of their chicken empanadas and some french fries. it was all crispy and very good. I would definitely come back to try their coffee and other foods.
