Found this place on Peerspace, and after a visit, my wife and I booked this venue for our baby shower with the owner Sandy with a platter of empanadas and morning drinks included. She had assured us that empanadas would be made by a person named Joshua as long as he's available and our guests would be able to order various coffees/tea/lattes. Once she confirmed that he was in fact available, she asked us to send funds via Zelle, which we promptly did. When we checked in two days prior, she had informed us that no one would be available to fry the empanadas nor make the drinks, and that we'd be responsible for running the industrial fryer... during our baby shower. We had said that this was not as we agreed, and she was unwilling to get on the phone, and instead texted us that there would be no refund two days prior to the event, although nothing was as we agreed upon. We finally asked if she'd still give us the venue if she's not offering us our money back, and she failed to respond.I have never experienced this level of unprofessionalism and disregard for their own business as Sandy's conduct with Waverly. We ended up relocating the event to our gracious friend's home at the last minute, but to have endured this level of scam, especially in South Pasadena, and while my wife was 7 months pregnant, was something I needed to share, so others don't encounter the same. She also mentioned that this venue was closed down completely for this event, and yet, every time I've passed by this venue, they've been closed. We also put in a dispute with our bank, but because we had sent the funds via Zelle, we unfortunately didn't receive our money back.I'm attaching the first and last of our text messages. I can't speak to their classes, but would highly recommend staying away from this place for your next event.

This is a great place to taking cooking classes and pick up new skills. Everyone is super friendly and you get to work with different ingredients you may not normally work with at home. I highly recommend checking out this spot if you’ve been considering taking a cooking class

Waverly is a great local coffee spot with great pastries and empanadas! The manager and staff are very attentive to your needs!

I have been attending the Baking Classes at Waverly and I do have to say that I am very impressed with the techniques we are taught as well as the baking science behind all the ingredients we use. This is a fun class that integrates the ability to learn baking easily. I highly would recommend to all.

My wife scheduled us both a cooking class as a date night. It was the best thing for our marriage. We drank wine and had a blast! I'm buying us another cooking class next. You should do the same for your partner! Cheers, JCP

Went to a catered event and not enough food for the guests

Great place! The owner is really nice. Hours are inconsistent because she has an illness and is trying to get better. But if they are open there empanadas and coffee are amazing. I took a cooking class and the chef instructor was very knowledgeable. Love this gem.

Found this place online as an advertised commissary commercial kitchen. There is no real kitchen. It was dirty and full of clutter. There was not cook top or oven, and the walk in refrigerator was a mess. There was not even a lot of prep space to work with. We paid good money to use this place for prep work for an event we had our food truck at. The owner took our money knowing that they were not a "real commissary commercial kitchen". I do not recommend this place, as they false advertise their kitchen. if I could give no stars I would do so.

They took over the spot that use to be Cookies And Cream (oh they will be missed). But empanadas here are really delicious and my daughter is a fan of the pizza one. Myself being vegetarian, enjoyed what they had to offer as well. The Spinach and Mushroom was tasty!

Went to a cooking class the kitchen was dirty and the sink was filled with dishes. Looks like they haven’t swept the floors in weeks. Worst experience.

We had a lovely evening with friends at Waverly making & cooking pasta with Chef Tony! Highly recommend for a fun night on the town!

Walked by and stopped in for an iced tea. Very inviting and cute atmosphere with outdoor seating, a piano, books and plants (they’re for sale too!). I’m from out of town and Justin was very helpful with California travel tips.

Odd, that 1 star review is clearly the review of an unhappy tenant for a landlord. Misfiled, I supposed.
Back to Waverly - we love Waverly! Our son, now a HS Junior, has been at Waverly since elementary school. At each stage in his development as a person and a student, Waverly has given him what needs to thrive. He loves learning, and has great plans for his future. There are a lot of choices for private high schools in the Pasadena area, but we believe we have found the best school for our son.
