I've had better prime rib at an Outback Steakhouse. I asked for medium rare, got medium well. My server didn't come for another 15 mins, and I was so hungry I ate it. There wasn't a lot of flavor, a bit chewy. The atmosphere is too dark.

Old Range Steakhouse – A Truly Disappointing and Disrespectful Experience!
My husband and I were on vacation and decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner—just the two of us—something we rarely get to do without our kids. Unfortunately, our evening at Old Range Steakhouse turned out to be the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had…and we didn’t even get a chance to eat!
We arrived about 45 minutes early for our reservation and asked to sit at the bar while we waited. Despite at least eight open seats, the hostess told us the bar was for walk-ins only and not available to those with reservations. There was no option to sit at the bar for a drink. She said she might be able to seat us early, then disappeared for more than five minutes before returning and attempting to seat us in a dark, cramped corner booth with very little lighting…it literally was almost fully enclosed, walls on 3 sides with just a small opening to step into the booth area. We politely declined stating that the dark corner booth was not exactly what we had in mind for our dinner by the lake, and asked if we could sit at one of the open tables by a window—three of which were completely empty. She refused, saying those tables were being held for later reservations (including ours). We were not thrilled, but said okay, and told her we’d return at our scheduled time.
When we came back at 7:45, we were met by the owner/manager, who informed us—in a shockingly rude and pompous tone—that we no longer had a reservation. He said, “I canceled it and sold it to someone else.” When we questioned if he was serious, he doubled down, claiming that because we left earlier and didn’t like the table we were originally taken to, that he made the decision to cancel our reservation all together. Despite our telling him we told the hostess we would return, he smirked and said, “and I told her you wouldn’t.”
We again asked to be seated (noting that there were still open tables), and he said, “I could seat you if I wanted to, but it would be the same table as before, and you just wouldn’t like it, and we’d have a problem, so…” At that point, my husband asked about our reservation deposit, and the owner said we weren’t charged because he had canceled our reservation himself. When we asked for his name, he responded with, “You don’t need my name.”
Frustrated and appalled, I finally said, “Fine, if you don’t want our business, we don’t want to patronize your establishment.” He actually laughed and replied, “Good.”
We’ve never been treated with such blatant disrespect—especially by someone in hospitality. We arrived early, hoping to spend more money on pre-dinner drinks and enjoy a nice evening. Instead, we were dismissed, talked down to, and laughed at for simply asking for a different table. This place may call itself “fine dining,” but there’s nothing fine about how it treats guests.
To the owner: customer service matters. You’re not just serving food—you’re creating an experience. And unfortunately, this one was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

Phenomenal food!! Awesome environment. The portions are large so you’ll be taking some home. Love the dim lighting and older bluesy jazz they played. There are many table and booths but the bar setting is like it’s from an old high class bar from the 20s. Highly recommend.

Exactly as expected. Cozy atmosphere with an incredible view of Lake Tahoe. We had the Cobb salad, ribeye and New York strip. Steaks were very good portions and the mashed potatoes were excellent. Highly recommend.

I had an amazing experience at The Lake House, a high-end lakeside steakhouse in North Lake Tahoe. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing evening, and the service was top-notch. I asked the waitress how many ounces the steaks were, and she replied with a smile, "We don't weigh our steaks, we just cut off a generous portion." Understood! Lol.
I ordered the Filet Mignon, cooked medium rare, and subbed the mashed potatoes for Broccolini, with a side of sautéed Brussel sprouts. While waiting, I enjoyed a Knob Creek on the rocks. When my food arrived, I couldn’t believe how big the filet mignon was! I thought, “It’s too big to be medium rare all the way through,” but I was wrong—this was the best steak I’ve had in 40 years. Perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor.
Paired with a nice red wine, it was heaven on a plate.
10/10, I’d come back in a heartbeat!

Worst service ever. The first 2 times we went to this restaurant we really enjoyed it. The third time we came was for our rehearsal dinner & the sever was very rude. We came here a 4th time and the service was horrible! The salmon was under cooked and there was a bone in it. They removed it from the bill after we complained 2 times. When we they brought the receipt, a guy who said his name was Aaron said to never come back. I’m sorry but that was the most insulting thing anyone has ever said. We’ve spent well over $2k there in the past year. Worst customer service ever!
Such a great place. Can't wait to go back. Get the steak!

We were here visiting Lake Tahoe and came here for dinner for my birthday. Idk why this place only has a 3 1/2 stars. The food is incredibly delicious. I had a New York Strip and my boyfriend had a Filet Mignon. Both came with delicious garlic mashed potatoes. I definitely recommend this restaurant. 10/10. And next time I’m in Lake Tahoe I will definitely come here to eat. We took the leftovers home and had steak and eggs for breakfast and the steak was still and good and juicy. We did get lucky as walk in’s but we sat at the bar because that was only available. And we are ok with that because we like to sit at the bar for better service. Ohh and before I forget. You MUST try the home made cheesecake. It is sooooo good. We were so full but we still ordered it and it didn’t disappoint.
Food was awesome & huge portions. We ordered the pesto chicken, gnocchi & blue cheese wedge. The pesto chicken was in a fabulous creamy sauce with the chicken done perfectly. The gnocchi sauce was creamy & cheesy -- incredible. The entrées were crazy steamy hot -- excellent. The blue cheese wedge was ice cold with big chunks of blue cheese, exactly what you want with the wedge. The bread was served hot with our water when we were seated. Would recommend this place anytime. Service was very good & quick.
