We visited Kelcy’s today and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. We ordered two breakfast burritos and a simple plate of scrambled eggs with two pieces of bacon for our baby. The burritos were very basic and lacked flavor—definitely not something we’d order again. The service was also a letdown. Our waitress had a noticeable attitude and only checked on us once throughout the entire meal. To make matters worse, an automatic tip was added to the bill, which was significantly higher than what we felt was appropriate given the poor service and mediocre food. Overall, the experience left a bad impression, and we won’t be returning.

I just finished eating at a Kelcy's. I've been wanting to try it for years. I should have come when I first saw it years back. My food was excellent and the service was impeccable. It's a classic cozy diner. I had really amazing bbq tri tip sandwich with lots of meat, perfect homemade coleslaw (not too sweet not too much sauce) and great krinkle fries. Oh the pie was amazing and perfect. It couldn't make up my mind so I let Tanya my waitress surprise me. It couldn't have better with the coconut pie. The layers of creme and filling were superb and you could really taste the coconut in all the levels including the wonderful toasted coconut shavings amptly covering the pie. It made me want to eat 5 whole pies. My waitress Tanya is such a wonderful sweetheart. Best service I've had since I can't remember. Honestly she is likely to have given me the best service and interaction I've ever had. Even with full house she was amazing. Her bosses need to double her pay and make sure she stays forever. I'm coming back asap and hoping she takes care of me again. I was having a really really tough day struggling before I came in and the entire experience and food flipped my day 180 degrees making me feel wonderful and happy. Honestly it's easily the top of my experiences eating in Tehachapi. The prices are more than one would expect but the food and service definitely make it worth it. The service was 10* in 5* rating system. Wowzers.. Tanya made my day Sorry no food photos. I didn't have it in me to stop for photos. My food couldn't wait!!

We had a great experience today at Kelcy's. We usually end up eating across the street when we visit Tehachapi. However, today, we were craving something different, so we went in. We learned that this was the oldest restaurant in Tehachapi, so it felt like we were part of history. Coffee was great, and they even had fresh-squeezed orange juice, which was delicious. The food came, and it was delicious. The service was great. The atmosphere was great. We even loved the choice in music. We are definitely coming back.

Wonderful spot! I’m a PCT hiker and they were very accommodating. Delicious milkshakes and salads with friendly service!

Kelcy feels like a very classic dinner and they were exceptionally welcoming to PCT Hikers which felt very nice after being in the wilderness for so long. Their pie slices were hot and delicious. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and absolutely to die for!

Kelcys has an amazing cowboy burger!! It’s my favorite thing to get, so if you want to try it I would highly recommend it! The service is quick and the staff is amazing!

I find it extremely hard to make a bad review. Each guide has their own style of reviewing. I always start out with five stars, and then depending on how the experience unfolds, I minus stars. In this case the atmosphere gets four stars because of the sentimental value that it holds to the town and the people of the town. The atmosphere of this establishment was in the purchase. So all the fixtures all the pictures came with the buy. We had a large gathering, and we called the day before to let them know. The restaurant was not busy which is unusual for Kelcy's of old. I had been warned that they did not have the service or the quality of food that they once had but because of the of History we decided to go for it. By the time our breakfast arrived it would be pressing on to lunch time. It was 45 minutes before our order was taken and another hour before everyone received their meal. Some of the over-easy eggs were done over-well and some still had runny whites. We dare not send it back to the kitchen. They were struggling. We didn't even complain.
We call this type of service 'running on a skeleton crew'. If the job calls for three waitresses you will have one. This is by far the number one reason restaurants fail.
Kelcy was a very personable man and took his business quite seriously and he would visit tables, ask how the meal was and thank them for coming; a genuine host.
Although we remember him fondly we were not expecting the Kalcy treatment when we went in but we were not expecting what we got. A non busy restaurant running on a skeleton crew.
Stale oil hashbrowns, uncooked and overcooked eggs.
We were very disappointed.
It's a legacy lost.
The best thing about this former restaurant are the pictures on the wall.
To the owner that may respond to this review, there is nothing more to say on this end.

Classic old diner, great biscuits and gravy.

The owner of this restaurant openly discriminates against the disabled. He has been reported to the city for a blatant ADA violation.

Great breakfast place. Service was excellent. Food was great. I asked for a fruit cup to go as I was traveling and wanted something to snack on in the car and they gave me a nice helping of really fresh stuff

Since you want feedback, I will add a review...I sat there and was ignored for a very long time and when a server finally acknowledged me I had to leave. You were more than happy to continue to sit people though. If you are busy (which you weren't) and understaffed (two servers?) maybe let your customers know they can make an informed decision to go somewhere else with the limited time they have. So, yes you earned a one star from me and I will not come back next time I pass through town, my initial review with no effort of a comment and just a one star review was just as much effort you put into me.
