This was our 1st visit and we enjoyed everything we tried. The service was attentive. The decor was pretty. Will come back to try something new from their extensive menu. Will recommend to family and friends.
Service not attentive, sparse. Had to ask for water, soy sauce and chili pepper, which was provided in miniscule portions, so we had to ask again. Food was not exceptional. Parking under building was safe and secure if you don't mind paying (weekend). Tea was expensive for a single container with flame heater and water to refill the single basket in the teapot. We were relegated to the back room which seemed to get less attention than the active front room, but I could be wrong. We'll probably be back, though, it's an easier drive than SF.
Not a do again for me. My husband loved it. I ended up with a migraine from ingredients. Not sure what triggered it.
The dim sum was great; a little slow in arriving but all was hot and felt right off the grill. I miss the serving carts, but they did come around with some trays, but their preferred method of ordering was by one's cell phone. A huge place and very busy so you know it's authentic
We made reservations here for Mother's day after seeing it reviewed on TV. We were excited to try it but were disappointed with the whole experience. We arrived in time for our reservation and was not greeted right away and had to wait another 15min before we were seated. It was a little chaotic to check in/wait for your table/to be seated. We ordered from our phones using the QR code on the table. The first plates took 25min to arrive and then arrived very sporadically. The dumplings we ordered were not very flavorful or had much taste. We chose different options from pork, chicken and shrimp and we were not happy with any of them. We also ordered sodas through the online menu and it never arrived, even though i was charged for it so they just gave us the soda cans to go. I understand it was busy because of Mother's Day but the food quality and lack of taste will ensure we don't go back.
Peony is a great OG choice for dim sum in Oakland's Chinatown. There's an underground parking garage in the complex so it makes for easy parking, and access to the restaurant. Parking fees and overall ease to find parking were typical of a metropolitan city, in my opinion. When we arrived the restaurant, we were greeted by staff and promptly seated at our table. Ordering was a breeze through a QR code. In addition, staff also walked around with trays of various dishes that you could order right then and there. Service was attentive without being overly so, or fussy. Peony offers a number of typical, traditional dim sum plates, but also has a variety of creative, new dishes too. Best of both worlds. We will be back!
My sister and I bring our brother here to eat every time he visits from out of town. This was the worst service we have experienced. We will not be returning. We were here 30 min and the hostess continued to seat other people ahead of us. She said no room for party of 3 but then they seated multiple 3 parties. My sister went and complained in Chinese. She said the other people had Open Table so seated quicker. I used the Open Table app and did a reservation and went back to her (because sister needed to calm down lol). I returned my ticket and Open Table to seat me. She was shocked. Asked me which one to use. I said whichever gets me seated we have been here a long time. She said but now all the 3 tables are empty. I said they need to make it work. So we were seated quickly Then, they left the servers iPad at our table to look at the menu. But they never came back to take our order. I found a QR code on our table and placed the food order through Open Table. Someone brought our order ticket to our table and it showed everything twice, like a duplicate order. So we had to tell them to fix that. She seemed annoyed that we used the QR code to order. We ordered 5 items. It took 30 min to get first 2 items. Another 30 min for the next 2 items, and never received our 5th item, even after asking multiple people. We ended up cancelling our 5th item and was another 20 min to get our bill. Food was delicious. Would have ordered more if we thought we would actually receive it. We left hungry, so we ended up going to another restaurant afterwards. This was disappointing, especially as a returning customer, with out-of-town visitors.
Seven neighbors ventured over to Oakland for a delicious dim sum lunch. We enjoyed sharing a wide variety of plates and especially liked the calamari, green beans and adorable pig egg custard dessert.
Delicious dim sum. Everyone is very nice who works there. Great experience. Can't wait to go back.
Celebrated Lunar New Years with my family and had a wonderful dinner. We found plenty of dishes for everyone's palate and food sensitivities. The fave dish was the peking duck. Only issue - wish the restaurant was warmer. It was COLD. That aside, it was a great meal.

Lunch dim sum was outstanding. Best I've ever had with many unusual offerings. Just be prepared to pay a premium for this outstanding food.
Excellent authentic taste on Dim Sum, offers more selections of unusual Dim Sum than even popular dim sums in Oakland Chinatown, service very prompt. Atmosphere very clean
You don't see many people having dinner who are not Chinese. Great for family dinners. My friend,Susan and I come...she's a regular. Our waitress suggested I try the Mongolian beef with broccoli. Susan ordered fish cakes. We shared white rice. The meal was very tasty and beautifully prepared. There was plenty for leftovers and I loved the reheated beef. On prior evenings, we shared their amazing lobster platter. I helps to speak or read Chinese, but you can't go far wrong just accepting their recommendations. I look forward to my next visits.
Absolutely love the food and the space. One word of caution though.....they close at 9:00. Not just the kitchen but the restaurant. So plan to arrive with plenty of time. We were rushed out by the staff at 9:00 while we were still finishing our meal. Desserts arrived while we were still eating and we were asked to pay the bill because the cashier was leaving. Then they packed up our food to go. We now know to arrive no later than 7pm in the future to not be rushed.
The dishes that we ordered ranged from excellent, to good, to fair, to poor. Our server seemed annoyed with everybody, even her fellow staff. Worst of all the expense was double the cost of comparable dim sum or full menu restaurants. Probably won't try again.
