Memorable omakase. Hidden gem in Tustin.
Sushi Wasabi offers an exceptional dining experience for sushi lovers. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about both fish and sushi, ensuring that each dish is prepared with the utmost care and authenticity. The omakase here is a true standout — expertly curated, fresh, and a true testament to traditional Japanese flavors and techniques. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with attentive and welcoming staff who make every guest feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic and top-tier sushi experience, Sushi Wasabi is definitely worth a visit.
Sushi Wasabi is an absolute treasure for those who crave authentic, melt-in-your-mouth sushi. Tucked away in Tustin, this unassuming spot is all about quality over flash, and every bite reminds you why sushi is considered an art form.
The Omakase here is not just a meal, it’s an experience. You can tell immediately that the fish is of the highest quality—each piece is cut with precision and presented like a gift. The toro, especially, is so rich and buttery, it practically melts on your tongue.
What I loved most is how Sushi Wasabi stays true to the spirit of Edomae sushi. This isn’t the place for crazy rolls drenched in sauce—this is real sushi. You come here for the purity of the fish, the perfectly seasoned rice, and the simple, clean flavors. It’s sushi as it was meant to be, and that’s rare these days.
Service is attentive without being intrusive. The staff takes their time to explain each dish and ensure you’re enjoying every moment of the meal. There’s a quiet respect for the food here.
Yes, it’s not the cheapest sushi you’ll find, but for what you’re getting, it’s worth every penny. If you’re a serious sushi lover, you owe it to yourself to experience Sushi Wasabi. I’ll be coming back here again and again!

We recently ordered the omakase at Sushi Wasabi, and it was absolutely delicious. The sushi was incredibly fresh, making for an unforgettable dining experience. However, we did notice that the beer we ordered was expired, though it surprisingly still tasted fine, so no complaints there! For dessert, we tried the brown sugar tiramisu, which was amazing, though it’s more like a custard than a traditional tiramisu. Overall, it was a great meal with a few quirks, but we’ll definitely be back for more!

What a joke. I go in and it’s completely empty and they tell me I can’t order off the menu and it’s only omakase. Wasted time going here

This place has the wrong hours posted. They basically close at 7:30pm. NOT 9PM, do not drive 30 minutes like I did just to be told no. We showed up at 7:50 and were told no. The hours say 9 on google, on yelp, online, when you walk up the sign says 9 and in the tiniest font says last seating at 7:30. Seriously.

If you haven't tried Sushi Wasabi, you are missing out. Outstanding sushi and sashimi. Service is exceptional and the restaurant is always quiet which sets up well for a nice lunch with a wife, partner, client, or friend. You need to try it!!!

Sushi Wasabi's been under new ownership for maybe 2 years now and we're still patrons. Is the sushi still as great as when Kats was responsible? Not quite. But even at 80-90%, they still offer some very compelling reasons to go back. (1) They're ponzu-heavy, which I am a fan of. (2) The blue crab hand roll is still tasty, although I'd prefer that the extra large lump of crab be distributed amongst the whole roll like how it was pre-changeover. The taste of the crab has slightly shifted, it's not as sweet as it used to be. (3) Kushi oysters > * (4) There's less of a wait now then there used to be, so reservations for the bar are easier to make.
I'd recommend giving it a try. If you're in the mood for both ponzu and omakase, you'll enjoy Sushi Wasabi.
This has been my favorite sushi restaurant for more than 20 years. The lunch omakase we recently had was fantastic.

Came here for lunch, a little hole in the wall spot. They only offered omakase but it was very reasonably priced so we sat down. The waitress was very friendly and the food came out at the perfect timing. The blue crab hand roll and the tuna belly sushi were my favorite in the omakase set. 10/10 would come back!
