Great locale for friends to meet with an outdoor sitting possible with easy access to 880.. Weekday special perfect for us .. You can follow your lunch with a gentle hike ~10 or so minutes away by car at the Coyote hill regional park which is very delightful open space I highly recommend! You will not regret!
I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Tomatino was disappointing enough that I feel it’s worth sharing.
From the start, the service was frustrating. I waited far too long just to be acknowledged, and it felt like I was being ignored before they finally decided to seat me. Things didn’t improve once I sat down—service was slow and inattentive.
When my food finally came out, the kitchen brought my entrée at the same time as my starter. Of course, that meant my main dish sat there getting cold while I tried to enjoy the appetizer. By the time I got to it, the food had lost all appeal.
Overall, the poor service and lack of attention to detail ruined what should have been a simple, pleasant meal. Definitely not worth the wait.

My family went to Tomatina on a Wednesday evening. The food and service were good. Definitely recommend.

Waiter automatically put 25% tip for a party of 5. States that it's standard for Tomatina. Changed my 15% tip. Checked on my table once. Waiter's service was standard, overall service did not justify 25% tip...

Since overstaying my visit to Union City and not by choice, I decided to have a nice Italian dinner at the highly recommend Italian restaurant Tomatina. It was the EMT crew that was tending to the little hoodlums that tried to rob me, only to end up in the hospital before their free ride to the jail that recommended Tomatina...So here I am, and what a wonderful experience. The food was amazingly delicious, and the service was top tier! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆

The sauce is literally so watered down..I practically drank water…when I would pick up the pasta with my fork, all of the sauce dripped right off. I wish that I could share a video to everyone to show you how bad it is, but clearly, you all can see the pasta sauce (watered down) just sitting at the bottom of the tray. I ordered this on door dash and I was so hungry that I had no choice but to eat the pasta! I was so disappointed on how disgusting it was. Save your money and do not eat here, you’re better off making it at home, trust me.

Poor Service
I am deeply dissatisfied with a recent experience I had while picking up a takeout order from your restaurant. I placed a pick up order online. Not only was it 20 mins late, but the staff I approached for assistance—specifically a young male employee and a staff member named Eddie—were unhelpful and dismissive.
When I opened the boxes, I found that the already paid ingredients were missing. I brought this to the attention of the staff, and, I was told to wait an additional 20 minutes for a fix—by then, the delay had already been unreasonable, and I chose to leave rather than wait nearly 40 minutes for an order that had been placed well in advance.
What made this experience worse was the lack of professionalism from the staff. At no point did anyone apologize for the inconvenience, nor was there any gesture to correct the situation. I was charged full price, including for the missing ingredients , and received substandard service from start to finish. I even emailed the management team. They apologized but didn’t want to refund the ingredients for the large Pizzas.
We chose Tomatina in Union Landing for a family dinner (party of six) but left frustrated.
Lack of basic courtesy. When we politely asked for quarter plates, he dismissed us with a curt, “I have only two hands” seems like he was busy. A simple request turned into an awkward moment for our entire table.
Unsanitary behavior. After clearing dishes, the server scraped something off the sole of his shoe and then used the same cloth to wipe our tabletop. Watching that was genuinely unsettling and left us questioning overall hygiene standards.
Tip pressure. Despite the above, he repeatedly pushed for a gratuity above 18%. I understand tipping culture, but tip amounts should reflect good service—not be demanded.
The meal itself was fine, but service can make or break a dining experience. Tomatina’s management should (1) retrain staff on basic customer courtesy, (2) enforce strict sanitation guidelines, and (3) remind servers that tips are earned, not extracted. Until these issues are addressed, we won’t be returning—and I can’t recommend this location to others seeking a pleasant night out.

One of my Favorite Places for Italian cravings. I love the fireplace oven taste
Restaurantji Recommends
Food was good service was OK they only have the 1 oven so cook times on big party food came out at different times
Second time in 3 years that they screwed up and "misplaced" my delivery order... it took me 3 years to try it again... disappointing
Great place to eat.

I got sick after eating the food. I called the restaurant and talked to someone name Carlos. He was not even sympathetic to what happened. His advice go to hospital. He has no idea of what customer service means. Totally careless about the food they served. I have been going to bathroom since I ate that bad food. I would never go to this place again who do not understand that they might have served the bad food.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET SICK. Bad management, bad service.

*Disappointing Experience - Poor Service*
I'm extremely disappointed with my recent visit to Tomatina in Union City. After having a decent experience ordering through DoorDash, I thought I'd give dining in a try. Unfortunately, the service was horrible!
Upon arrival, my husband and I waited at the front for 10 minutes without being greeted, despite multiple employees standing nearby chatting. The restaurant was nearly empty, so it wasn't busy. Eventually, we were seated, but only because I asked "do we seat ourselves?"
Our waitress was unfriendly and had an attitude, making us feel unwelcome. We sat for another 10 minutes without being offered drinks or having our order taken. A total of 30 minutes passed without any service.
Frustrated, we decided to leave. When I informed the bartender, they simply shrugged and said "okay" - no apology, no concern.
For a restaurant that seemingly had no issue with staff availability, the lack of attention and poor attitude was staggering.
Unless Tomatina addresses their service issues, I wouldn't recommend dining in.
I recommend Backyard Bayou across the street. We walked in and was immediately greeted. Food was great, and the service even better!
