Midtown Ventura is rapidly changing and progressing. Theres more and more of these trendy coffee shops popping up in every corner. And to be honest, they all suck- sorry but not sorry
But Butter & Fold is different. Why you ask? The first thing I noticed was the legendary Faema E61 espresso machine (if you know, you know) and that to me was an immediate sign the owner was a traditionalist and not following bs coffee trends. My coffee was amazing 10/10. I caught myself scooping the coffee foam- which unlocked a core memory when I was in Italy drinking macchiattos, doing the same thing. Croissants were delicious too and elevated my entire coffee experience here.
Butter & Fold is the real deal, no bs coffee

I was pleasantly surprised by this place when my dad and I stopped by on the way to school, as we had time to kill and wanted to get something to eat. I ordered the hot chocolate and we split an almond croissant. The croissant was nearly as good as the ones I had in Paris recently, and the hot chocolate was your completely average hot chocolate, not bad at all. My dad ordered the sipping cocoa, and I hid a small sip of it and it was definitely cocoa, it was good (for everyone who likes extremely dark chocolate.)

Chai latte taste like milk water - not a trace of masala spice. Cute place though.

There isn't a better croissant on the coast of California within 100 miles of Los Angeles, maybe further. The kouign-aman, if you are lucky enough to be there when they have it, is not to be missed. The coffee here is Italian style and exceptional.
My order is flat white and they know what it is and how to make it. The house made sodas are unique and always refreshing. I don't think there is a better loose leaf, made to order tea selection in town that I'm aware of.

Service sucks! It makes it a bad atmosphere. They need better workers. And it’s so damn hot in there, big need for air conditioning. Food is alright though, nothing crazy.

Ummm $8 dollars for a single cinnamon roll, got a cinnamon roll and three other small pastries and spent $30. I think it is really over priced. Just had a lobster pasta for dinner the night before, with amazing bread on Ojai for $30.

10 out of 10, do not pass this up. BY FAR the best pastries in town. they use grass fed butter and you can upgrade to A2 dairy in your coffee. I love sitting at the bar and interacting with the awesome staff. I don’t generally write reviews, but I came here to say: go to Butter&Fold if you’re craving a croissant. & be warned — you’ll be dreaming of the butter bread after the first bite.
