I’d been to Mother’s for lunch service but never for dinner. My friend was in town with me for work. He’s also a chef so I try to get him some of the local stuff that’s around I think he’d dig.
Got to sample some of the new fish from Chef Felipe which was awesome. The food here is great and the service was excellent from our server Chad and the bar manager John.
Kept well fed and well served. It was good to have this kind of experience for my friend to make him feel the love of the community here.
Thank you Mother’s, I’ll be back of course.

Went there for the first time and was highly disappointed. Stepped in to the restaurant with family and a friend and his daughter and waiting for someone to come up to us and sit us down as there was nobody on the greeting desk. We Saw a few of waiters pass by delivering food to the tables but never bothered to ask if we had been helped. After waiting for about 20 minutes and nobody helping us we finally just left and went across the street. I am not sure if they are understaffed or what as we did see multiple empty tables with food and plates from the previous customers. Will never go back to this place again.

We went to Mother’s Tacos last night for a soccer club fundraiser and unfortunately the service was extremely disappointing. I’m giving this a two-star review solely because the food was delicious — otherwise it would have been much lower.
When we arrived, we were told there was a 30-minute wait unless we found our own table. After seating ourselves, service felt disorganized and unfriendly from the start. Our server seemed irritated and every simple request — water, menus, utensils, or basic drink questions — felt like a confrontation.
We waited long periods for everything: drinks, water, plates, napkins, and even our kids’ food. We repeatedly had to flag someone down for basic items and were rarely checked on. Communication felt dismissive and the overall experience did not match the very high prices ($35–$45 entrées and $15 guacamole).
To be fair, the food and margaritas were very good. However, the service and overall management were extremely lacking, and for those prices you expect a completely different level of hospitality.
I will also say that after reading through other reviews, many of the negative experiences described were very similar to ours. That made our experience feel less like a one-off situation and more like an ongoing service issue.
If you want a great comparison, go to Corazon Cocina — similar menu, fantastic food, and consistently great service. Their beautiful outdoor patio has a charming European feel and the experience is night and day.
Sadly, despite enjoying the food, we would not return due to the service.

We had such a wonderful dinner at Mother’s! From the moment we arrived, everything felt easy and welcoming — convenient parking, a great atmosphere, and genuinely kind, knowledgeable staff who made the whole evening feel special.
You know a restaurant is going to be good when even the chips and salts hit the spot. The mango mocktail was sooo good, the chicken skins perfectly crispy, and each entrée — the duck, pork chop, and skirt steak — was cooked 10/10. It’s not always easy to find a place that gets everything right, but this does. We left already talking about when we can come back. Such a gem for Ventura, and absolutely worth a visit.

I'm writing to express my disappointment with my recent order. The grilled fish taco contained only a small strip of fish, the microgreens were missing!! I didn't realize it until | saw another person order a fish taco.! Won't ever go back! A bottled soda was priced at $7. Although the Micheladas were the best part!! That's what my husband said! We ended up going to Toppers pizza for take out and a fresh large salad because I was still hungry!
Delicious food, friendly staff and fair prices Lunch and dinner times are busy so eat late lunch or early dinner 4:45 on a Friday was perfect 😋

The food is fantastic. Lots of flavor, good quality meat, and fresh ingredients. Don’t go here if you’re on a time limit, my husband‘s food came 35 minutes after my food. It wasn’t even that busy. I might consider going back if I have time to take a 2 1/2 hour lunch.

Previously was called Mothers tacos and I guess they changed it Mothers. Valid change as they no longer serve tacos. Only large plates where you need to make the tacos yourself. I think my plate of chicken mole was $34. Took 40 minutes to get the food even though place was not busy. Girl that sat by me and ordered after me finished her food before I got mine. Guessing they removed the taco option to increase margins. Food was okay, but way overpriced and took way to long. Won’t be returning.
