Had dinner Saturday night with my wife, food was amazing. We started with the mussels as an appetizer then I had the crab and spinach salad and my wife had the cave salad add salmon. Everything about it was amazing. Especially the service, Sarah was our main server but we also were helped by a Rachel and Megan. We sometimes forget about the cave with its location but it’s a place we’ve always loved and and enjoyed when we get the chance to get in.

We’ve gone to the cave many times in the past and loved it but this last time the food was not up to par for the high price. It wasn’t seasoned very well and oily. The house wine was just blah. We won’t be back anymore. Also it had a bad sewer smell, plumbers were trying to clear a drain pretty close to our table.

Very disappointed for the first time. I don’t know if something changed recently, like the owner change or chef change, but our whole experience this time was very different. We had a cave salad that had too much dressing and not really fresh vegetables (like you can tell when you see a packaged spring mix getting old). I had jumbo scallop and garlic shrimp that had much over cooked spaghetti with super oily sauce with no flavor. And I was not sure if scallops were cooked well enough because I had some funny feeling in my stomach later that night. The kids had a hamburger that had burnt buns and burgers that they complained that it tasted bitter. The hubby had chicken Marsala that also lacked flavor. Unfortunately, we smelled sewer the whole time and funny thing, they needed to provide an emergency sewer repair right on the floor at dinner time on Saturday. Plus, I didn’t really enjoy their wine selections this time. (Well, everybody has a different taste for wine, so I won’t count that into stars though) Before tonight we always thought The Cave was one of a little up scale side of restaurants in Ventura, so it was very unfortunate.

I might've liked the casual wine tasting and dining but I tried the private dining experience with a large group and hated it. They charged a few hundreds to secure the room, which didn't go towards the cost of food and it isn't even cave-like (if you want the cave interior, skip the private room). They "made a special menu" just for our large party which meant they gave us a smaller, more limited version of the full menu with the prices hidden so you don't know how much things cost until later. And you can't split the check in any way. The food was mediocre and way overpriced. Would not recommend the private dining experience.

Great place to have lunch or dinner and sample wonderful wines. Great selection of wine at the attached wine shop, and live music on certain nights for dinner. Nice atmosphere and highly recommended. Thank you.

I went to a party that was held at The Cave. It was an excellent experience. The wine was great, service was very good, and the food was top notch. One of the best pizzas I have had.I highly recommend this place. One part of the evening I thoroughly enjoyed was the live music. The musician had a very soothing sound and added a great ambiance to the restaurant.

Food and wine are generally good to excellent if not inexpensive. The only real complaint is the "cave" they made looks cool but is noisy and echoey.

The Cave is a gem in the rough. I read the local reviews before having lunch here. This is a unique restaurant located in a industrial building. The restaurant also has a wine store for you to buy and take home. They have self served wine dispensers for patrons to select from all levels and prices of wines. A Great concept. I ordered the Cave Burger with French fries. The burger and fries was cooked perfectly. My dessert was Tiramisu, which was light and creamy but could have tasted more like espresso coffee. Great way to end the lunch. I thought the food and service was exceptional. This is a enjoyable restaurant for the uniqueness, ambience and foods. I highly recommend that you try The Cave.

The Cave opened in 2008 and has been a best kept secret in the Ventura area, It is in an industrial area and is easy to find. A friend mentioned it yesterday so 4 of us decided to give it a try. Fantastic service. Megan was excellent and made some great suggestions,. We decided to give the prix fixe menu a try. The food was delicious, the portions plentiful, excellent selection food choices. We are all very picky eaters and without exception all of us were impressed with the food.As for the wine selection it is off the chart. You can get a bottle of wine from the wine store that is attached to the restaurant. Michele, the owner, was very solicitous and made sure that everyone was pleased. Looking forward to going back. Give it a try you will be amazed.

This is a lovely little place situated on the outskirts of Ventura. We have always driven by here and one day we decided to just walk right and, and we did not regret it. Service was friendly, drinks were great, and the food was excellent. They also have a nice little wine shop. The inside looks like the inside of a cave, so the atmosphere is a bit unique.

Gluten free options. They make their own sauces, so the server can tell you what you can eat. The braised beef ribs were gluten free and delicious.Dietary restrictions: Knowledgeable staff can help you with gluten free options.
