This place will feed your soul! It’s like you’re sitting in your Grandma’s kitchen patiently waiting for your plate of food. Absolutely worth the wait!

Terrible. Don't go. For your own safety.
I was excited to try what looked like home cooked southern meal. Instead of was old cold and microwaved. The sides were good, like the potato salad and fries. Cornbread was dry and old and microwaved. The ribs must have been cooked last week a they had that refrigerator flavor. Catfish was bland. Shrimp was frozen. The ribs were sent back because they were cold. They were brought back after time in the microwave and just... no. Peach cobbler was decent but not worth the 5 dollar price. I was thoroughly disappointed. I would not recommend to anyone and I will notreturn. The tab came to $120 for 3 of us.
Update, we all had mild food poisoning symptoms after our visit and threw out the left overs.

Lemon pepper wings were spicy, flavorful, and crispy. Quality chicken. Mac and Cheese was cool, fries could use a little more salt but everything felt made to order. Valid spot, don’t expect table service or much for the dining room ambiance, but take the food to go and enjoy in your own home 👐

I love the catfish special and my husband loves the baked catfish here. We eat here on a regular and have always received hospitality. I definitely recommend this family owned restaurant for some yummy soul food.

So, I was raised as a Catholic. Therefore, I still crave fried fish on Fridays. But, I can never find it and have to settle for a McDonald's fish filet or fish and chips. The fish and chips batter is not the same as crispy cornmeal is.
Well, yesterday I Googled and found Swirk's Soul food restaurant. I noticed good reviews, and one bad one, which seemed to be quite bitter. I don't agree with that one.
Smirk's is a small mom and pop neighborhood restaurant in Aurora that feels quite homey. It has been operated by a Sudanese husband and wife for over 13 years. They were very kind and welcoming.
They offer several seafood choices, in addition to other dishes, including shrimp, whiting, perch, catfish, and tilapia. I ordered a perch platter. It was fried crispy crispy as I like it. The portion was generous. The sweet potatoes were like candy yams with marshmallows....yummy for my tummy. My 2nd side was a generous and equally delicious portion of Cole slaw. I enjoyed half in the dining room, and had enough to take home.
The owners are so lovely and work hard to please customers. The restaurant was spotless, unlike what was claimed in the negative review.
There was maybe $1 difference in what was on the menu and what I was charged. That's not a big deal to me, given that food costs are high and always changing. Its hard to keep the menu and POS system in sync. I spent $24 for my meal, including a 15% tip. I was very satisfied!
This is a small family run business that is competing with corporate restaurants. You cannot judge them the same. Also, I've gone to many Asian and Mexican restaurants where the price is a mystery, and cleanliness doesn't seem to be a high priority.
Our people tend to hate on each other. In most minorities there are naysayers just because they don'tsupport each other, whether Africa, Black, Latino, or Asian. .... Crabs in a barrel mentality.
Swirk's was very pleasing to me. They work so hard, and sincerely and do not deserve the hate. ~ Kevy

Missing half of my order delivered through DoorDash. I contacted DoorDash who offered me a credit but I still called the restaurant to let them know about the terrible experience. Someone picked up who barely spoke English and claimed that since they were not the one who packed up the food, they couldn't say whether it was done right or wrong.
This is why it's so difficult to support small, minority, neighborhood businesses because it's not money well spent. 2 of my guests didn't have food to eat. A credit is great and all but what I really wanted was to just get the food I paid so much for. How can you possibly leave out HALF of the order?
DO NOT EAT HERE…EVER! DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO NO ONE!
The customer service is terrible. The food is terrible and the place is dirty. The menu is way overcharged for anything including bacteria and food poisoning. Bathrooms are dirty nasty! We ordered two beef rib dinners. Everything was terrible. The mac & cheese was sour. The cornbread was dry and as we were getting ready to eat our ribs notice that they were frozen ,so that means that they cook their meat and they freeze it who knows how long it’s been frozen and then they put it in the microwave for you when you order . This food is Unsanitary. I could not believe it, and instead of offering me a refund, he went back to the kitchen and put it in the microwave so instead of causing a scene, we just wrapped up our food, came home and fed it to the dogs! That’s about what he’s serving dog food. Do not eat at this place. State needs to pay a visit to this place and close them down for good! Awful & terrible! If I did not have to give a one star, I wouldn’t. oh, and let’s not forget the menu he overcharged me $.97 per dinner. I asked him why he said that was the price. I said that’s not what it says on the menu then he says well he hasn’t had time to change it yet OK whatever that means Do not support this business!

i waited 20 minutes just to place my order and the man who took my order called me “sir” a few times before i gently corrected him advising that i was a female. to which he responded, “if u say so.” i clarified that i didn’t say so, “my birth certificate and the two children i gave birth to say so” and he again rebutted “whatever u say”.
i had paid already so i decided not to make a scene…. but he was oddly pleasant when he gave me my food. i thought it was an apologetic demeanor until after got home and ate the first dish… it went right thru me. upon reflection, i think they gave me old fish on purpose. DO NOT EAT HERE!

The fried catfish and okra are amazing. The greens and corn bread made my 74 year old mom feel like she was home. Since we're from New Orleans we look for good food and we found it.
