One of the originals! Great family atmosphere, friendly staff and homemade root beer on tap. All the food is decent. Three in my party, I usually get the double mushroom melt with fries. Both were really fresh and good. Second person in my party had the pork tenderloin with cheese curds. They raved over the tenderloin and passed out cheese curds to the rest of the party. The the third person had corn dog bites and chicken tenders. Both seemed to be fresh. Two mug root beers from the tap and one diet root beer from the fountain.
So I love A&W. I’ve been coming here for a while, but the big thing is they take forever to get you your food. Don’t get your orders right and don’t listen. A bunch of kids listening to music doing nothing in the kitchen

I can’t say how impressed I was with this place, which feels odd for an old fast food restaurant.
The food was good, honestly nothing specially amazing, but it was accurate and good. It was plated nicely and with care on the tray. I didn’t realize they made their root beer in house and is served out of the old school ceramic dispenser. It was awesome and delicious and served out of a glass mug!
The people were great. The lady that took our order was a delight. Now the ordering experience is where it starts to get really cool. You can do a traditional walk up to the counter inside or carhop drive in style outside. OR you can literally order from the table on a telephone. I have NEVER seen that before.
The place has an old, like 80s style vibe. It is well cared for and clean and neat.
This is truly a gem of a place. The only thing I wish they did was wear name tags so I could name the girl that served us because she was such a delight.

Absolutely the best A&W in my opinion. Of course I was eating here way back in the early 70s so it's very nostalgic for me. This is an original location so they don't run the same deals as the chain locations, but the food definitely tastes better than the chains to me. I highly recommend checking it out and get yourself the refillable glass jug of root beer if it's available. So fun to bring the best root beer and vanilla ice cream to a party to share.

Fantastic Food and Classic Vibes at A&W Rootbeer of Berthoud! Over the past month, we’ve visited A&W Rootbeer in Berthoud 6 or 7 times, and it’s become our go-to spot! My wife can’t get enough of the Crunch Burger, and I’m hooked on the Chili Cheese Hotdog—both are absolutely delicious. We always order the French fries well done, and they come out perfectly crispy every single time. Today, I tried the Chili Cheese Fries, and they were fantastic! Of course, the Root Beer Floats are the star of the show—perfectly frosty and unbeatable. The young staff is friendly, efficient, and makes every visit a pleasure. The building has a charming, old-fashioned A&W vibe, complete with carhop service (though we haven’t tried it yet). It’s the ideal stop for a quick, satisfying meal with a nostalgic feel. Highly recommend A&W Rootbeer of Berthoud!
