Was so sad to see that JJ Madwells shut down! I grew up in Conifer and hadnt been back for over 20 years. Was super super bummed when we tried to eat there. Sad days...

Madwell's made me a fan of Italian food. Their marinara is really compelling, and the entrees are always made with noticeably tasteful ingredients and appetizing presentation. Generous serving sizes.

We went tonight for my husband’s birthday. We arrived at 7:00 and placed our orders by 7:10. At 7:45 and still no food I asked the bus boy if he could ask our waitress about our order. He came back out and said it would be 5 minutes.
Our young waitress came out and apologized, apparently when she put our order in the kitchen printer was out of paper. She said the kitchen was preparing it now and it would be about 5 minutes. We wait 10 minutes. At 8:00 we went in thinking it would be done. It was not. We asked for our check for our drinks.
The waitress had to get approval from the manager who was behind the bar. After a lengthy conversation the waitress came back and asked if we were sure that our food would be ready in 5 minutes. I guess 5 minutes is the go to response.
We are standing at one end of the bar, the manager at the other end. We paid for our drinks and left at 8:10.
The most disappointing part of this experience is that the manager never said a word to us. The place is being run by teenagers and the manager is checked out. We won’t be back.

A great little place to get good food. We sat outside, it is in the mountains so it was very comfortable. The bread is very good. The food tasted great. You can taste the fresh! I would definitely return. I would also recommend this establishment.

Highly recommend visiting JJ Madwells! We love supporting delicious local restaurants like this. Italian food is on point. Great pizza and pastas. I love ordering the Tuscan Chicken, so yummy. The staff is always super nice and the drinks are delicious. You can sit in the bar area, a quiet dining room or on a nice patio outdoors. They support the local schools which is awesome!

We had a great time at JJ Maxwell’s. We ordered the Boston pizza, gnocchi amd meat balls. Our waitress started us off with big fat garlic rolls and I had to pump the brakes so I could keep room for our meal. Even the soup was delicious. They have big portions so needless to say we had to get to go boxes. I crushed the left overs later tbat night.

Our party ordered two different chicken dishes (Tuscan & Piccata), both featured meat that is clearly from the freezer and then microwaved and/or boiled in a plastic bag to cook it through before finally (and barely) searing it. Pretty nasty stuff: flavorless and bad texture. Originally ordered the Chicken Parmigiana but it was somehow "out of stock" though they never explained why. Clearly our party and others were eating chicken dishes, red sauce, noodles, cheese, etc. at their tables...so I'm not sure what 'magical' ingredient was missing in order to concoct a menu item that is reportedly one of their better ones. The only explanation is these are pre-made (with breading) which is of course not a great look for an Italian restaurant. I don't think the cooks can really do much 'from scratch' cooking which the menu implies they can (things like their Parmesan Cream sauce, their "specialties", etc.).
The dogs on the patio are a major problem, saw multiple dogs off-leash and peeing next to diners. The entire restaurant is staffed with high schoolers and recent grads who are nice and do a decent enough job but clearly management needs to step in and keep control of the restaurant and let the literal children just focus on doing their service, bussing, etc. jobs well and not tell rich old ladies their dog is being a nuisance to other customers. The atmosphere otherwise is pretty solid at Madwell's.
From what we ate and also saw on other tables, this restaurant has a really, really good red sauce which is a big kudos to them, but all other food was marginal at best. Prices are very lofty for such poor ingredients and preparation. Our entrees were probably $15 quality at $23 actual price.
SUMMARY: Nice wait staff, inattentive management. Awesome red sauce, terrible everything else. Prices are sky high for the quality, so one of those two elements needs to chance one way or the other.

I had the JJ special, a bowl of handmade sausage onions peppers and mushrooms in a spicy marinara that was so delicious. Our server was very nice and easy to work with I’ll return for sure
