Welcome to Black Box Bakery, where baked goods are less “French elegance” and more “America’s Got Diabetes”. Imagine croissant dough overstuffed with brownies and Nutella, then dunked in white chocolate, rolled in shortbread, and topped with more brownies. For six dollars. This is not a pastry. This is a heath crime.
The infamous “Cubes” are the final boss of your pancreas. Just looking at them raises your A1C. They sit on the counter like smug little blocks of insulin resistance, daring you to make poor life choices.
And the experience? Oh, sweet buttery hell. You’ll stand in line for ten minutes just to place your order for something that tastes like regret wrapped in burnt pastry. Then you’ll wait another ten minutes while someone else slowly meanders to assemble your box, which I assume involves a seance, a spiritual reckoning, and a conference call. To top it off, you’ll be prompted (no, guilted) into leaving a 20% tip for someone who handed you a pre-made baguette and managed to spell your name wrong on the receipt. Bravo. That’s not service; that’s audacity.
Black Box Bakery is what happens when Instagram gluttony meets late-stage capitalism. It’s excessive. It’s exhausting. It’s edible gentrification. Skip it. Go lick a stick of butter behind a gas station. You’ll have a better time.

Take-away only bakery located inside Edgewater Market, they specialize in laminated pastries and unique flavors. The pastries are well balanced: flaky, not too buttery to the point of greasy, and not too sweet. Expect a messy eating experience! The Cheesy Leek Breki is a breakfast pastry filled with mashed potatoes and topped with cheese and leeks, while the Nutella Mothership is structured pastry with Nutella cubes on top and glazed swirl on the bottom. Both were very done well!

They offer the standard coffee drinks but also unique house drinks, Astro Fuel and Mothership Latte. Tried the Astro Fuel, which incorporates espresso shots with sweet & salty condensed milk and black pepper-steeped milk. Certainly unique and maybe a bit too adventurous, the hot version suffers from the milk overshadowing other flavors.

Second only to Bakery Four I would say in Denver. I find many are a bit sugary for my taste, but their lamination is stellar.

You can find their stuff at Steam in Highlands on the weekends.

Very excellent customer service, many delicious options but I wish some of the popular items wasn't sold out so quick! The strawberry milk croissant was very delicious, very heavy on the cream inside the croissant but still delicious... Even there chai is excellent as well, very spicy if you're looking for good one...10/10 would come back here if I wasn't so broke lol

Not really a bakery guy but after going to black box, I might be. The French onion swirl was 10/10.

I really enjoy this small little bakery that you can find in Edgewater Public Market that serves pastries, croissants, and coffee items. The parking lot is a good size and I didn’t have a hard time finding a spot and luckily in the front, but of course this was a little later in the morning, so I most likely beat the rush. I wish I stayed longer in the area to try more pastries both savory and sweet, but I enjoy what I was able to try. I grabbed an iced beverage and one sweet and savory item to eat. The first was their sausage roll which I did enjoy but was a little bit more on the saltier side, but the croissant helped balance it out. I also had their raspberry croissant/ muffin, cruffin. And it was delightful. I thought it would be dry, but the croissant was of course delicious and flakey and filled with a thick raspberry flavored cream. The staff here is efficient, and the waiting time was minimal, but again I’m sure on busier days, I am sure there would be a longer line than the one I waited in. I would come back again.

An update 9 months later:
Still the strawberry croissant is my favorite, and its fair to say the best on the menu. The others look really appealing but taste wise none of ones I tried had the wow factor. Vanilla latte was very good.

Old review:
Nice lovely bakeries. I've tried 4 flavors, some were better than others. The best one for me was the strawberry croissant: it strikes the right balance between crunch, sweetness and filling. The carrot cake mini cube was my 2nd favorite. Eat it on the same day cuz it will become soggy the next day (that's what happened with me). I was expecting a stronger pistachio flavor in the pistachio croissant, especially in the filling.
The cinnamon roll was very very sweet. I liked the coating but there was a sauce in the bottom that made the roll too sweet.
