Used to be my favorite restaurant from 10 years back. No longer.Fight the mandatory prefood forced 20% tip here folks.Covid changed everything yes. Restaurants should thank their stars for the public if they made it through it.But...Camilla's Kaffe charges customers a mandatory 20% tip on to the bill while you're ordering your food and drink AT A walk up counter. It should be illegal to do this from a posted price menu.Today I took a date to Camilla's. We sat at the patio and took our time with the menu deciding what we wanted. We got up walked to the cafeteria counter and ordered.Left the cafeteria counter with silverware, napkins, a number tray with hot sauce, and condiments. A just over $40 tab turns to $50 with the queens staff 20% tip tax. But wait...there's more.HERE AT Camilla's Kaffe we are forced to tip before any service or food is served or performed at the cafeteria style walk up countertop. Subway should follow suit.So what does ANYONE expect for a tip???? Where's the service??? I'll bring my knee pads next time for when I'm begging for a refill of my Arnold Palmer. After sitting for 20 minutes with a empty plastic cup...the staff ASKS if I want a refill and what was it (because he didt take the order)??? (No I'm good choking down my hamburger let me work up some moisture to swallow and ill answer you...)I go to other places for the same money. BUT THEY HAVE SERVICE!Why do we go out to restaurants again? Food. Company. Atmosphere. Convenience. SERVICE. Memories. My Father, Uncle, and Grandparents are buried in Fruita. It's just not the same as it once was. Family business and the establishment service used to be service like no other here...

This business is quality and in the area it is probably worth $790-800k

It was crowded and bustling on Saturday morning but we didn’t need to wait for a table. The food was delicious and came out in a reasonable amount of time. The servings are huge and you are likely to take away some for another meal.Staff was busy but friendly.

What really put me off was I paid for my food and a 20% tip was added before I even got my food or I knew what the service was like. I don’t like having a choice on if I want to tip or not and how much! I doubt we will go back!??????

Great local eatery with a good selection of breakfast and lunch items from traditional to Tex-Mex. Delicious special coffees and consistent service round out the benefits of this restaurant.

The food here is great! The very best of Fruita. Love their French dip with parmesan crusted bread. Can't say I have had any better. The restaurant was even better when they waited on tables...now you have to go up to the front to order and I can never remember what my party wants. A minor inconvenience but I am lazy.

This is a fun local spot! The artwork and ambiance make it a perfect place to meet and hang out. I got The Usual, which was pretty standard diner fare indeed. I'd absolutely come back for the biscuit and bacon, though! I also tried the Turtle espresso drink, which was super sweet and tasty!

You seat yourself, you go up to the counter and tell them your order, where you wait for them to hand you your drink. The food isn't that good. I wanted sausage gravy, they took their regular meatless gravy and sprinkled sausage on top of my biscuit, (which was this really weird grey color), and then added the gravy on top of that. They charged $3 for adding the sausage. And to top it off, they charge a 20% gratuity to your bill. I don't know where they carry all the audacity at. I'll never eat here again and I'll trash talk them every time they're brought up around me.

Four or five years ago it was much better. The food can be quite good but it’s inconsistent.Same with the service, it used to be quite good- certainly always cheerful - and now it sometimes misses. Add to that a mandatory 20% tip, which is a game changer and an insult to those of us who are good tipoers(and actually hurts customer service).I’ll spend my money at Hot Tomato or Basecamp.

Taking advantage of their patronsI am a local to the area and this restaurant. While Camilla's used to be one of our favorites, when they changed from a restaurant with waitstaff that came to your table to a stand in line to order at a counter and then seat yourself restaurant where they would bring your food to the table when it is ready and then add a surcharge of 20% for doing so, we stopped being patrons of this restaurant. However they have a great pumpkin chai tea and I would still treat myself to a dirty pumpkin chai tea a few times during the fall season. Last year the dirty pumpkin chai tea was between $5 and $6, pretty standard for a "coffee drink" these days. However, when I treated myself to the dirty pumpkin chai yesterday the price was $8.00! for a small! When I looked at my receipt there was an extra charge for the "dirty" part and a 50 cent charge for whipped cream! This is a tiny squirt of whipped cream in a "to go" cup. Outrageous, in my opinion. They asked me if I would like whipped cream, pretty standard question, but they did not tell me it would cost 50 cents. I (we) will no longer give this restaurant my/our business. They just keep taking advantage of their patrons, so I guess I/we will not be patrons anymore.
