It is not easy for me to write a bad review. We used to love coming here and sitting at the sushi bar. The fish was always so fresh and the chefs were fun and welcoming.
Sadly I’m not sure what changed in the last few months but the quality of the fish is definitely gone downhill. I didn’t recognize a single chef behind the bar.
The cuts of fish are very poor quality with skin left all over each nigiri and sashimi cut. They also didn’t even make all the items we selected and got annoyed when we asked for them.
We tried to ignore our disappointment bc it was “date night” after all (and chalk it up to just a bad day) but what really bothered us was that the chef asked if we wanted to “try” a fish they had on special and don’t have often. We said sure.
There were only 2 of us and he served us up 8 pieces to “try”. I found plastic in one of the pieces and had to secretly spit the piece out into my napkin. I didn’t say anything bc we were under the impression that “trying” would not cost us…. (That’s the benefit of sitting as sushi bar closer the end of a busy night, they don’t want it to go to waste. And hope that you like it and order it next time.)
We were incredibly disappointed to find all the specialty fish on our bill for an extra $35. And it did not taste good.
In addition, the cleanliness of the bar and the bathrooms was concerning as well. Also they didn’t pre-bus any of our dishes as we finished items. The server was standing directly next to me as I stacked them and flirting with the chefs about how the handrolls that were just ordered are for “her”. The dishes literally sat there until after we left and they never refilled our water which was empty very early in our visit.
All that said we will not be going back again and I want to warn anyone else that sits at the bar not to accept to try any specialty menu items from the chefs.

first and last time coming here. service was HORRIBLE. it took 10 minutes to get a menu then another 10 to get water. we were about to leave but i really wanted to give this place a shot. the sushi disgusted me, it did not taste fresh at all. the ramen was good but not good enough for me to come back. i want to like this place because i loved the atmosphere 😖

First time here. The prices are pretty standard for a sushi restaurant. Considering the high quality, it was quite a bargain. The rolls were great and the fast and friendly service made it a very pleasant experience. Definitely not a "fancy" restaurant but one i would bring a date to.
I look forward to returning there. Best sushi I've had in the Denver area.

worst sushi i have ever had from a restaurant. i have had better grocery store sushi than whatever they tried to feed me.
1.) the sushi roll i ordered was a simple salmon avocado roll- WHY IS HALF OF THE ROLL CUCUMBER- the rice was poorly washed and the quality of the salmon was chewy (bad)
2.) the golden roll i ordered was supposed to have shrimp and salmon but i couldn’t distinguish the difference or if there was any shrimp in the roll at all
3.) the eel sauce they use if off putting and unappetizing
the only thing i really appreciated was the service of the waitress we had

Restaurantji Recommends
I was very optimistic about this quaint sushi restaurant in the Golden area. Unfortunately, there's very little fish in the sushi itself, and the scallops we had were chewy and have a slight fish smell to them, and the flavor was generally mediocre.
The service was atrocious, and when we asked about an allergy, the server said there wouldn't be any of said allergen in our dish, and it turns out it was both inside and on the top of our roll. Our server refilled our water once it was empty, but otherwise did not tend to the table much, and when we received our bill we were charged for the roll that had our allergen on it.
Also, the bathrooms are unkept, which doesn't give me confidence about the cleanliness of the establishment in general.
This is not an experience I would recommend nor would I like to repeat it for myself.
Dietary restrictions: Our server did not know the ingredients in the dish and was unable to recognize allergens in the rolls.

The only restaurant I consistently tip 30% at. We moved to and first tried Uokura 2 ish years ago. We have gone back once a week since. They’ve managed to keep quality, freshness, and service standards high. Plus all you can eat at $32. Good cocktails. The fish is super fresh. I recommend the red snapper nigiri and the all the nigiri. All the fully fried (tempura rolls) are weird but I think that at all sushi places. If raw fish isn’t for you, the ebi nigiri and shrimp tempura rolls are fantastic.
