One of the last old time-y restraints in Gunnison. Good food, and authentic western experience- this place feels like it did 25 years ago!

They sat us in the back next to the restrooms where we can see into the kitchen. I saw one of the cooks attempt to put the onion rings I ordered onto my plate where one fell off onto the counter and then on the floor. I literally saw the cook pick up the onion rings off the floor, look around, and then throw it back into the frying basket and reheat it and then put it back onto my plate. Not only is that disgusting, that contaminated the frying oil they continued to use. When they brought the food out and sat it in front of us, I asked the server if he picked it off the floor and put it on the plate. Apparently the cook said it only fell onto the counter and then he reheated it....why would you reheat it if it only landed on the counter? Would not recommend this place at all.

The W in this cafe stands for the worst cafe. You would literally have to wait for 30 mins to be seated and even after waiting for so long you would be served a ridiculous food. Would not recommend this place at all….

Best place in Gunnison to get food. You definitely get your money's worth and everything is super tasty.

The service was average at best. We waited about ten minutes for a table and then about 5-6 more before anyone acknowledged we were sitting there. I watched as a couple that was seated after us get coffee and drink orders taken. She also didn’t refill coffee at our table despite doing so for others around us. She wasn’t as friendly as most waiters were has this week in Gunnison. Perhaps she was having a rough day?

The food was good. The cinnamon roll was large with icing. The biscuit with gravy and omelettes were good. Standard diner fare.

The atmosphere is just old town diner - nothing special about it. The bathrooms could use a coat of paint. It’s obvious the place is popular either with locals or tourists because it’s been busy every time we’ve walked or driven by it.

The W cafe has been a favorite breakfast spot of mine for 10 years. Every year I come to Gunnison during the fall colors and look forward to eating here. I tell everyone who comes up here they have to stop at the W cafe, and I’ve always had a lovely experience. This year, my experience was so bad I feel compelled to leave a review.

I dined here yesterday with my wife and daughter. Our waitress was so cold and rude that it honestly ruined the entire meal and put us all in a grumpy mood the rest of the morning. First of all, she didn’t crack a smile once throughout our entire time in the restaurant. She interacted with us and every table she had with a look on her face like she wished she could be anywhere but there. Didn’t greet us with any pleasantries, didn’t ask us how our morning was, nothing that you expect from a hospitality position, and especially not how you expect to be treated in a small mountain town. When I asked if they are having staffing issues and that’s why the restaurant has been closed so many days that week, she replied coldly, ā€œI’m here once a week I wouldn’t know.ā€ Another waitress behind her chimed in and explained that yes, they are having staffing shortages and will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays from here on out, said with a smile and kindness. Our waitress just waited for us to order. I then asked about something on the menus and she responded with so much annoyance to my simple question that I didn’t ask anything else after that. After our food came she never stopped back in to check on us. Eventually she walked by in a hurry and put the check down without saying anything, not even a thanks for dining with us or have a great day. Simple things that go a long way. We observed her treat everyone the same way. Every time she walked by us she had a terrible scowl on her face.

When we paid at the front we told the (presumably) manager about our experience and I honestly was hoping to hear her say that this waitress was just having a bad day. Maybe her dog died last week. But no, she told us that’s just how she is, ā€œbut she’s wonderful.ā€ And proceeded to defend her without apologizing for the terrible experience or telling us this would be looked into. So my only conclusion here is that they are okay with this waitress treating customers like garbage and ruining peoples’ experience at their little hometown cafe. We sadly won’t be back knowing this is acceptable. It’s shocking that someone can work in a customer service based job and treat people the way we were treated. And that the management defends it.

I’ve been eating at the W for years. Well, as of the recent past two years, I’ve been getting breakfast delivery at least once a week. I pretty much have a standing order of what I like. Huevos rancheros with hashbrowns and pork green chili. And, corn beef hash. The owner, Kim is one of the hardest working people I know!

We will stay a night in Gunny just to go here. Their food is perfect, serive is incredible, it's just the perfect small town diner. We've had pretty much everything on the menu, but our favorites are:

- W skillet. Just a great, hearty way to start the day with a good amount of protein and some veggies. Add a side of sausage gravy to put it over the top.
- French toast. HUGE slices of baguette or hoagie that are battered. Really unique and wonderful.
- Omelets. Any of them, but I go basic with a bacon and American cheese. Unlike so many places, The Dub does it right mixing the bacon into the egg and putting the melty cheese in the middle. Mmmmmm

This is THE place to go in the valley. Any wait is worth it.

Parking: Parking along all of the streets is free.

Kid-friendliness: Many kid-friendly items. It's a small space, so kids can't run around or misbehave without causing issues.
