This small restaurant is one of my favorite places to go for ramen or sushi. Everything tastes good and the owners are very personable and fun to interact with. Everything is fresh and the sushi is delicious.

Went during lunch. Friendly service, the food was delivered without a long wait time, fresh tasting and very good. The only reason I took away a star was because I still felt hungry when I left (small portion sizes). But to their defense, it was a lunch portion.

I love this place so much. The food is so amazing and my mom and I go all the time and we get the Mt. Fuji and San Juan Roll. The service is amazing, the waiter makes jokes with us and makes sure our food is always up to par. In my opinion it is the best place to eat in

This was our first visit to Hiro, and WOW. Howard (I assume the owner?), was absolutely incredible. He was attentive, funny, and never rushed us or left us waiting. He took the time to chat with us, and at the end of our meal gave us all a paper copy of a Playlist that he put together (which I thought was the the sweetest touch). Will absolutely dine here again next time we are in Montrose! Every roll was delicious, HIGHLY recommend the red snapper sashimi, and I swear their Gyoza was the best I've ever had! Can't forget to add some Sake with your meal, good selection and a to die for cloudy sake!

The Ramen with beef was super fantastic and the several sushi rolls that we tried were all really good. Service was really friendly and attentive.

I have dined here a few times. Every time I get sushi, one ingredient is left off or barely used. I didn't notice it at first until it kept happening. Had the lunch special and was hungry an hour later. One of the better sushi places in Montrose.

Me and my SO have been eating at HIRO for quite the while. They have always been very accommodating and very kind. Their service is on point. My SO has had several different types of Sushi before and he says this place serves some of the best. We are always so happy with the experience and the food that we receive here. We always recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a new place to try. Thanks for the great service! :)

For this area, it is very good - and it’s the only sushi option we have. I can’t stop laughing at all the people giving Hiro a bad review because it’s not as good as sushi in California or Washington or Japan - no kidding! That’s like going to Japan and complaining about how bad the Mac-n-cheese is! Snarky foodies and those passing through or new to the area who don’t understand how difficult it is to get things here - you don’t need to compare it to wherever you’re from or whatever you’re “used to” or “familiar with.”Montrose is completely land locked, 1000 miles from any ocean, rural, not on any major freeway, and has little variety as far as international cuisine of any type. There are 40,000 people in the entire county and it’s not really a hot spot for cultural diversity. Maybe it isn’t top notch for L.A., but for this area, it’s nice to have it!Everyone in my family likes going to Hiro, it’s usually our “special occasion” place. They have specialty rolls for holidays that are pretty fun to try. I always get rainbow roll and I haven’t had one I’d consider not good. I have had better sushi in big cities, it’s not the best sushi over ever had, but it’s also good. It is a bit pricy but, again, Montrose is not near a freeway and most of the roads going there are closed or really dangerous in winter (and non-winter) months so imagine what it costs to get sushi supplies. I get the cost here. The owner isn’t the friendliest person, but he is not American and I’m pretty sure it’s a cultural thing. He isn’t rude, he’s just blunt and isn’t going to make small talk with you. The restaurant itself is small with an odd layout and usually cold, that is true. But we don’t mind because we get sushi! That’s a treat! If you’re from out of town, you should know you’re not getting fish that was caught this morning when you’re at 6000 feet elevation surrounded by mountains… so just pass on by and don’t disappoint yourself.

First time visiting this place. Looking for s nice restaurant for a nice date night out. Pretty simple... Food was top notch, so delicious. Had the Hibachi steak dinner and it was amazing. Didn't like California rolls but not really my thing usually. Girlfriend really liked them though. Service was quick, responsive. Like the family business element to it. The atmosphere was just kind of plain, plain walls, lighting not great but overall a great place. Don't love people opening my menu after I've decided and trying to sell me something else. But just a small detail... Would recommend!!!

Food wasn't as good as I had heard. Service was decent and the sushi that my husband got said crab but he got imitation crab instead. And for some reason the yakisoba that my husband got smelled and tasted like smoking cigarettes it was the weirdest thing. The shrimp tempura appetizer was great wish he had more than just two shrimp. And the beef bowl i order and had high hopes for tasted like old roast beef that had been sitting out and it was supposed to be brisket. So needless to say we were highly disappointed especially since I take my husband for Sushi for his birthday every year and I think this definitely has to be the worst one we have tried.
