Terrific food in a lovely space in downtown Montrose. Both my wife and I really enjoyed the delicious Braised Short rib.. so tasty (and huge..lol)

Stopped here, while passing thru, not knowing what to expect. What a pleasant surprise! Pulled pork sandwich was delicious, as were the huevos rancheros with vegan chorizo. Not exactly what I expected, but wonderful nonetheless. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere!

Unbelievably great breakfast! We had some time before our flight home, and decided to try it out.
I had the biscuit & gravy breakfast, which was the best I’ve ever eaten. Homemade biscuits with crunchy edges & fluffy middle. The gravy had a hint of jalapeño, although not overwhelmingly hot.
I can 100% recommend this wonderful place to everyone!

Pleasant atmosphere. Seating is mostly tables and chairs, only a few booth seats. Food was delicious and plentiful. The menu was a bit limited hence only 4 stars.

The reviews did not even come close to our experience. Super disappointing for such a highly rated and recommended place. Before getting to the bad of our visit I must say the atmosphere is PHENOMENAL. What a cool little cafe environment where it seems like everyone knows everyone. It was all bad from the moment we were seated. The 5 people behind us in the line actually received their meals before our orders were even taken. While waiting for our food we noticed stuck on food debris inside my wife’s water cup which dislodged into the water of course. We did not get offered any refills until the very end and we were there at the end of the rush. Our waitress was more interested in hanging out at the bar and talking to employees / regulars than serving us. The food came and we were finally ready to see what all the reviews rave about. What we got was cold (not room temp even) fries and mushy undercooked French toast. As we were eating we noticed the dust falling from the fake plant right next to our food and the dead fly that was stuck in the dust. To top our visit off, we waited probably 10-15 minutes for the check after finishing eating, even after making eye contact with our waitress multiple times. Finally we get the check, wallet out ready to pay…. She leaves the check and “runs away” to go chill at the bar with her coworkers again…. Another 5-10ish minutes goes by and another waitress notices us and finally cashes us out. I want to end this review on a high note that maybe it was an off day for our waitress and the cook, everyone was SO NICE that I almost didn’t leave this review, but after spending $40 on breakfast for two I figured I had to say something.

The French toast was wonderful. The mimosas were delicious. Everything was fairly priced. Our waitress, Emily, was very nice. 10/10 recommended.

Emily was super nice and very helpful as our server! Also, I saw the manager handle a situation behind us very well and even covered there meal. Was highly impressed with the service, food, and atmosphere here.

A surprise to find for their prices. We had the short rib and the meatloaf dinners both came with mash potatoes, baby carrots and asparagus.
What makes this a standout is the quality of the food and their seasonings.

We went to Rays today for lunch. Nice clean place. Found out “Ray” the owner is from our home town. Very nice guy. We ordered the chicken fried steak with two eggs, home fries and biscuit. Everything was cooked perfectly and the gravy was the best I ever had. The one disappointment was the meat. I’m not sure why people want to use ribeye for CFS. The grain is tight and in this case there was a lot of gristle in it. I would suggest going to a tenderized cube or round steak instead of the ribeye. We will visit Ray’s again when we visit the San Juan’s in the future as he has many other items on his menu we want to try.

UPDATED 9/12/25 Ray’s refunded my entire meal. I’ll give them credit for recognizing a bad meal and doing what they can to make it right!
ORIGINAL POST:
Greasy pool of oil made up the huevos rancheros. Hard to stomach. The “biscuit” served with the two egg plates was a greasy mud pile of dough.
Could not recommend.
UPDATED later the same day… Downgraded to one star: we both felt ill pretty much all day after eating the two dishes. Highly recommend going elsewhere.

We ordered some bacon cheeseburgers, some chicken sandwiches and we ordered some fries and got their jalapeño gravy and put it on top. Everything tasted amazing. Got her food fast worth the money. Will eat it here again.
