What a wonderful place to come across in Paonia! I enjoyed chatting with the owner and the food was phenomenal. The drip coffee was good too. It is cash or check only so be prepared! (I was not so I had to use the ATM). Patio is dog friendly which we needed.
Stopped in for a treat as we passed through town. My impression was that they’ve been over-run by their success. The atmosphere was quaint but non-functional, and it was hard to tell who was in the queue and who was just socializing in the crowded dining area. Poor signage and a lack of display cases made it hard to be prepared with an order when reaching the service counter. We were glad to find a few gluten free options but after a holiday weekend there understandably was...
Growing up in and around New York City (please don't hold that against me...:) ), I was surrounded by delicatessens and bakeries of the first order! Not only was it an olfactory head-trip, but the food was absolutely delicious! Back then, I was a round little fellow.
So when we discovered Chris J's Paonia Bread Works, we felt as if we'd landed in a bakery wonderland.
