AWFUL! Do not waste your money. Took my boyfriend here for a dinner date because we had been craving professional, restaurant sushi. This is not the place for that. Rice was hard and dry, the sushi was WARM and broke apart the second I picked it up. I wasted 32 dollars on the worst service I've ever experienced. While paying, the waitress scolded me for accidentally counting my money wrong. The whole restaurant was tiny and cramped, I had to walk sideways to get around. DO NOT COME HERE!

Food: I got the dynamite, dragon & tiger roll. The sushi was decent, had a fair enough of sauce on top. The rolls were plentiful but the crab rangoon were a but stale and dry inside.

Service: It was rather quick and easy to get take out

Ambiance: Place is rather small, it get cramped when theres alot of people. However, it seems to be well enjoyed by the community.

Others: In a plaza with a parking lot, not much standing room in thr front so if you're waiting to be seated or food, it might be easier to stand outside.

I love this place! The food always hits the spot. I enjoy the orange chicken with broccoli and hot sake ? Great Japanese cooking so you get what you pay for. The sushi bar is pretty cool too! They close kinda early so you gotta get there on time. The staff are very friendly and professional. The portions are really good as well. Im giving it 5 out of 5 stars for everything!

Server came out and chased me to my car and asked why I didn’t give her a big enough tip and wanted me to change my tip to a larger number. The server only came to my table twice, and I had to walk up and pay for my bill.

Friendly staff awaits you at Yamato. Very pleased with my shrimp and chicken dinner, soup and salad. The Bento box looked good too. Will be back soon.

Love their hibachi- but if you’re looking for the whole show - they don’t even offer it here. During the pandemic- the quality of the food declined to like a 1/5 but thankfully they are back with high quality filet and chicken and we have continued to get takeout from here at least once a week! I would say 5/5 for sure as I don’t think there are any other hibachi places around and they have went back to their higher quality chicken and steak- thankfully. My only complaint would be the pink sauce- or as many call it “yum yum sauce” they’re SUPER STINGE with it! I also prefer RI’s Yamato’s pink sauce- this location is nowhere as near as good but still decent! I also don’t think the two are related in any way- I just believe they share a name.

Their lunch prices are AMAZING & their shrimp tempura roll is quite great!

Vegetarian options: They have it

Above average Japanese/ sushi restaurant.
Prices are not bad for the food.
Rainbow roll was good, buk Sakura was great. Dinner salad and dressing was really good, especially the dressing. Miso soup tasted bland and water down almost. I had the seafood dinner special. Hibachi rice was also bland and seafood tasted like it was low quality frozen seafood from Aldi across the street. The sauce made it eat able. My son got chicken and steak combo and that was good, rice again was bland too. Would I come back and have another try, probably.

The sushi is divine, and the hibachi is to die for. The service is friendly and attentive. Yamato is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Eastern CT.

Wheelchair accessibility: I came on in crutches at our last visit to Yamato. The door was held for me, and we were given the table closest to the door. Convenient and very thoughtful.

I have been on a hunt for some good vegan Asian food for the past couple weeks. Stopped in here to try, I asked them if the vegetable yakisoba noodles had any animal products. The hostess did a great job checking with the team and finding out that yes, they use butter but they would be happy to prepare it without the butter. So I ordered that, as well as a vegan sushi roll. Both items were fantastic. The yakisoba noodles had a variety of delicious vegetables, which was great. The sushi roll was just fresh and fantastic. This will definitely be my go-to for vegan Asian dining going forward in the area.

Vegetarian options: They have a lot of vegetarian options, and they are able to accommodate vegans as well if requested.

Sashimi cut too thick -- like stew beef. Real sushi chef or out-of-work butcher?Staff not just ill-trained, but not trained at all. No set-ups provided till we requested. Wine placed on empty table and then so-called waitress disappeared till I pushed my wheelchair to the bar and yelled that we needed a waitress. We each had soup, but were not asked what we wanted and each got a different kind. My friend got a mushroom-based soup, and she is allergic to mushrooms. Potential lawsuit -- or worse. Manager just shrugged about all of this. At the cash register next to our table, the manager and waitress were having a giggling fit. We had to ask them to lower their volume or move away.So you have been warned.
