It has been quite awhile since our last visit to the Village restaurant, nothing has changed to our delight! Great Service, Good food and my favorite Fried Oysters is as good as I remembered. Such a wonderful meal in a charming pub setting in a beautiful town of Litchfield.

Typical pub fare in town. Needs to learn definition of “NY minute” as it serves a lot of NYC weekenders that own property in and around area.

To tell you the truth it wasn't that good I wasn't that impressed maybe it's because I'm Italian and I've made very good food I take a lot of consideration when I cook and there's an awful lot of ingredients I just wasn't that impressed the sauce was so bland sorry

I would like to preface this review with I work in the food industry and I almost *never* send food back. My wife and I just got home from eating at this restaurant. We ordered the clam chowder, Caesar salad, fried oyster tacos, butternut squash ravioli with crab sauce (on special) and the chicken cordon bleu (on special). The clam chowder was so thick and gloopy with the taste of flour permeating every bite like they didn’t cook the roux long enough. There were definitely a decent amount of clams and the flavor was there under the flour taste and lack of salt. We moved on hoping that it would get better. The salad and the tacos came out next. The salad was underwhelming, but edible. The dressing was a bit thin and bland for my palette (especially for it being housemade dressing). The tacos were bland however the fry on the oysters was perfectly thin and crispy- not greasy at all. That’s where the positives end the mango salsa was somehow bland (it was screaming for some heat/ acidity) and made the tortilla itself soggy, also the choice of lettuce made zero sense in a taco. Everything at this point felt forgivable and we aren’t complainers so we just hoped the entrees were going to end this “meh” experience on a high note. We were wrong. The waitress placed an extremely burnt “chicken cordon bleu” in front of my wife with perfectly white mashed potatoes (not a grain of salt or pepper to be seen), and boiled frozen mixed vegetables. Before even cutting into it we knew it was going to be dry. Deciding to give it the benefit of the doubt she cut into it and tried a few bites - one of them being an entire chunk of chewy/ burnt cheese. My dish required a bite to reveal the butternut squash inside the pasta was extremely sweet - almost like a pie filling covered in an extremely salty and also sweet crab cream sauce. Our waitress came over twice and we vacillated about sending it back, but upon the third check in with our untouched food she asked if we wanted boxes. I made up my mind and apologized profusely and told her the gripes with the entrees and asked to send them back. She got a manager to speak with us, I told her we didn’t want replacements we just wanted to send it back. She apologized curtly and took the dishes to the kitchen. We sat and waited for a few minutes and she returned with the bill. She stated that the chicken was taken off due to it being burnt but my dish was left on. My dish that I had taken maybe two bites of and was a disgusting combination of flavors that I’m surprised passed a taste test through the kitchen to be on special. I’m not sure how places like this get to be so popular, because the theme here was bland and underwhelming and that’s being generous.

Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful "town green" location. I started with a crock of chili, lots of ground beef and even more vegetables, topped with cheddar cheese and chives, served with the best cornbread ever. I then had two fried oyster tacos with a great spicy slaw and topped with a very yummy seafood romaulade sauce. Next, fried artichoke hearts that I loved but had to finish at home, I was too full. Debbie had some scrumptious clam chowder and a New York Sirloin cooked rare with fries. She liked it a lot. I really liked this restaurant, it was very busy but we got a great table in the bar area.
