There is no better place to have a fine lunch in middle Connecticut than the West Street Grill in Litchfield. The restaurant is cozy and well planned both for the food and the ambiance. The tables are spaced so you will never feel crowded or sharing a conversation with strangers at the next table because the decibel level is so loud so people have to shout over music to be heard. But come for the food not the furniture. There are multiple choices of traditional favorites (burgers, chicken, salads) or unexpected culinary highlights you might expect in higher priced restaurants. The peasant bread is a good way to start. Our waiter was competent and service was very attentive. Our food was delivered promptly and cooked to order. In all, we will definitely be back.

Keep forgetting about this place and every time we go back, it’s always great. My daughter was in town from NYC for the weekend and we called for reservations. From the moment we walked in, you could feel the cozy vibe. We started with the peasant bread And the mussels. Mmm…good. We split the arugula salad and I got the short ribs. These are by far the best short ribs I’ve ever eaten. The flavor, the crispy coating. This is a labor of love. This place has been around for 30 years. It’s still on top of their game. The owner James is there every day and his passion shows.
