Al's, located right off Route 8, is one of the more visible hot dog stands in CT. I've seen Al's mentioned on at least one best CT hot dog list in the past few years. I recently visited for the first time. Al's has some outside seating that doesn't seem like it's been refurbished in some time. I did not have the impression that the inside seating is presently open. Rather, you order at a window and they let you know when it's ready. You can eat outside or get it to go. Service was good. As the menu says, Al's serves long dogs on a regular size bun. I assume Al's serves Hummel's since they had Hummel umbrellas. Al's serves a pretty good dog, but it didn't rise to the level of my fav CT places. I ordered a chili dog with onions and I also added yellow mustard. I'm not a big fan of dogs that extend past the end of the bun because I like bread and toppings on each bite. In addition, here, that allowed me to see the wrinkly appearance of the dog, which I didn't love. The dog itself tasted fine, but I prefer the density, texture and flavor of dogs at other CT places. The chili sauce didn't pop for me. It was about average. The seasoning didn't really connect for me. The mustard and onions were on point. 3.25 Stars for Al's. It's worth checking out if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip if you don't live nearby.

Had a hotdog and Hamburger was nothing special. Got onion rings those were disgusting to put it nicely. atmosphere come on , do a paint job atleast to make it look like your trying.. french fries were soggy. If I could give less then 1 star I would. This place used to be the go to place , now I say go by this place not worth time or money . Won't be going back ever..

I know times have changed but food was not good. Chicken was over cooked and couldn’t chew. It felt like rubber. Mozzarella sticks were mush. When I called girl says it was where they get them from. No they were freezer burned and nasty. The cheese on the chicken wasn’t there. She said she melted it too much. Kids always loved this place but definitely went downhill!

Everything I had was good, except the burger. That was very good. I had the cheddar jalapeno burger... if you have the jalapeno fried up even better. I took my son with me the last time we were up that way, and he was just asking to go back. He liked their chocolate shake and hamburger. I will definitely be back.

Ok, I used to go here all the time, and times have changed everywhere! Prices are crazy, the service is still great, there are no pickles, onions or relish outside on the table, just katsup and mustard☹️. You have to ask for it at the counter, and you get a little baby sized container. Sometimes it's the small stuff that matters.
