Absolute gem! Great staff, fast and friendly. Food is incredible, fresh and flavorful. I had the cheddar scone, vegetable bean stew, country breakfast and mushroom omelette. All well prepared and delicious. Great find. Will be back.

This little restaurant in New Milford is the perfect stop to get something to eat and unwind. The breakfasts we had were exceptional. Delicious and made with the freshest ingredients. We had the mushroom and leek omelet with a salad and bacon. The staff were delightful and kind. Everything was served very quickly and the portions were huge. We are saving our coffee and pecan bars for later, but are sure they will be delicious as well. Go out of your way to eat at this “quaint-delectability personified”; you’ll be so glad you did.

The food and coffee here are excellent, but be cautious when ordering online. We placed a pickup order, received confirmation, and were charged, but upon arrival, we were told the order wasn’t in their system. The staff explained that their website has a known issue: orders including daily specials often fail to process, leaving no record of the transaction. As a result, none of our food or drinks were prepared. When we later called to dispute the charge, they claimed they couldn’t see it on their end, forcing us to resolve the issue through our credit card company. The staff was aware of this ongoing problem, so it’s surprising the website remains active. This technical issue should be a top priority to fix!

Pretty and good service. Coffee is a little expensive but it's a local place to be expected. Beautiful little place.

Once in a blue moon, I walk into a place on impulse and I find that everything, really EVERYTHING, is right about the joint. Storefront, signage graphics, decor, layout, staff, menu and, oh yeah, the food. Fabulous coffee, Sacred Grounds of Sherman, CT. Gotta return for lunch!

I ordered online and it was prompt and delicious. Also, I made a mistake-I thought they had forgotten the hash browns for our order-went back in to ask for them. They quickly and courteously gave me the hash browns…but when I got back to the car it turns out the hash browns were on our sandwiches! I am impressed with how kind and helpful they were even though I made the mistake. They were super busy, and still were able to make great food, and take good care of all customers. Thanks, River and Rail! Highly recommend!

The Spring Salad was the best thing I’ve ever eaten. I’m not exaggerating, it was actually so so good. Cold brew was solid as well and the girl at the counter was a sweet heart.

While this may be an unpopular opinion, I must admit that I just wasn’t impressed with River & Rail.

A friend and I visited yesterday morning and were lucky enough to sit outside on a beautiful day and enjoy the tranquility of Bank Street. Truthfully, while the interior of the cafe is cute, the environment doesn’t exactly scream “comfortable.” It’s floral and cutesy, but not a place to spend hours studying or passing the time.

As I said before, the staff was great. I was personally disappointed with the small menu, which to me, felt overpriced.

The bakery selection was rather small, which I feel is a huge missed opportunity for downtown New Milford. I ultimately wound up ordering a Blueberry Scone and a Golden Milk Latte, but would have loved more pastry options to grab and go.

Taste wise, the Bluberry Scone was “okay.” The texture was a tad dry and I would have loved more jam options.

My Golden Milk Latte didn’t have a lot of flavor and I think could have benefited from richer spices and aromatics.

Perhaps I hyped up River & Rail too much in my head before visiting. While I love supporting small businesses, I personally think the quality of the products and the environment are simply too subpar to warrant me another visit. To each their own though!

This place knocks it out of the water. They never miss with the consistency and the quality. Best place to get breakfast in New Milford by far.
