NewSylum is a brewery built in the old Newtown asylum (the employee dining hall, if I remember correctly). They usually don't have six IPAs on draft like most places, shuffling between a healthy mix of styles. Beers range from good to great; I've never had a bad one. The pizza is where this place really stands out. It's fired in a brick oven and the result is a New Haven inspired personal pizza that's a little closer to New York style (CT beer fans: think Brewport's but smaller). You can tell it's popular because they have a huge stack of to-go boxes. There's a lot of other stuff on the menu I haven't bothered trying because this is so good. Parking is a bit of a pain, especially if you want to fight for one of the two car chargers on the other side of the Fairfield Hills campus. But the chargers are free (for two hours), so if you can get one, lucky you! Also, it can get crowded and loud sometimes, especially when the music starts. Most breweries are like that. It's better in the summer when their outdoor space is fully operational. Plan your visit accordingly. But do visit the old asylum. You'd be insane not to.

Pizza variety was great. Taste thin crust. Had a St. Patick' day pizza and pickle pizza. Nice draft selection with casual setting.

Good pizzas, great selection of beers, Thursday night is Trivia night (and other activities on other nights). Indoor and outdoor seating. You have to like loud music though because it's playing throughout the venue. Kids can have a blast playing outside while their folks can visit with other adults. And outside is dog friendly.

So much fun. Great atmosphere and live music. The food was really good, especially the Bavarian pretzel.

Killer trivia! Stellar pizza! Phenomenal staff! Out of this world beer - particularly the Doctor Strong! Can it please! My heart’s only desire. Not even my husband competes.

Beer is fantastic. Their pizza is the best. Service is awesome. Love this brewery. The scenery is beautiful. You have to look it up. Take a trip. It's a must visit if you're a brewery connoisseur. One of my favorites.

We really enjoy going here. There is tremendous history in just this building. It had been the dining hall for nurses and doctors of the psychiatric hospital many many years ago. The old buildings where actual patients resided are abandoned mostly but good photography ops. They have a small but tasty menu. We enjoy their pizzas, pretzels and beer. In summer months they have bands most afternoons. Dogs are allowed outside and well mannered kiddos inside are welcome too but leave strollers outside.

Great place to go to have a beer and pretzel/pizza and listen to music. They allow dogs outside. Highly recommend. Great beer selection. Friendly service!

One of my favorite breweries in the area! The atmosphere is super fun especially in the warmer months, the food and drink options are great, and the staff is always attentive and kind!

I love this place. They have exceptional beer and are still IPA oriented; which I love. Only 4 stars bc they don’t always tell you when they are out of a beer on tap and will just pour it from a can. I only mind bc I don’t feel like a can poured beer should be the same price as a beer on tap. Especially from a brewery
