I'd come from California for Deke's Bagels! Oh wait, I have, and I'll do it again! Great bagels, friendly staff, good service. I will definitely come back!

First time customer; disappointed.I arrived to the Niantic location at 7am on Saturday to find the window closed, they open at 7am. I waited cause I saw two ladies in white coats and two men in the bakery. I was never greeted but instead got stairs from Deke’s employees and a laugh from the two ladies in white coats as they came to check the contents in the display window and clearly made eye contact with me. It wasn’t until 7:17am that the window opened and Olivia set up the tip jar and iPad. I told her I have been in line for 17 minutes and no one even came to me to say we are running a few minutes late. I guess they are only trained to do their own jobs. Clearly the crew was waiting for Olivia to get to work which she was late and open the window. I ordered a half dozen bagels which on the menu and website cost $9, I was charged $11.72 or $1.95 ea for a total $12.59. Clearly not what was advertised. I would like anyone to consider their first interaction with Deke’s business. I am disappointed in my first experience at Deke’s. I have emailed my experience to the owners website and no response. I have a picture of my bill of sale, menu and web-site to show me being over charged, still the own has never reached out to correct this. Clearly they hire anyone. I would have them focus on team training and baking skills. I still wait for a response form Deke.

My son posted a review based upon comments from myself and I was floored to see the extremely unprofessional and offensive response from the owner.First, attacking a child and making comments that the mother runs the show and I am a "yes, dear" is extremely offensive and totally uncalled for and again, very unprofessional and displays a total lack of decency and responsiveness to their customers. While my son did not go to the location, his statements reflected those that I made. To be frank, the location is nothing but a drive through so what is the importance of actually being there? The review in no way discussed the locationThe owner attacked my son for some statements but conveniently omitted responding to the entire review. The fact is, you go to a place and pay twice as much, if not more, for bagels and are shorted to boot. So, not only were the bagels expensive but we didn't even get the value for what was presented.If the response to the review is any indication, it is apparent to me that customer satisfaction and just plain decency is something this owner lacks. If you want to be treated that way and not get what you pay for, then, by all means, frequent this operator and soon as I doubt they will be in business much longer with their attitude towards the customer.To quote your response, Mr Owner: Ohwhatanass YOU are

Bagels are phenomenal.Don't go unless you have an hour to wait for your food, outside.I ordered online, received a text my food was ready and upon arriving to pick up, I waited at the window for 25 mins. Staff made eye contact with me and continued to ignore me waiting outside to pick up hot breakfast sandwiches.I’ll add that it was 8:30 in the morning, one other customer was there and it was pooring rain/ 45 degrees outside.You can find good bagels elsewhere I promise.

The cinnamon raisin bagel was full of corn meal on the bottom and extremely hard this am. The coffee was lukewarm and gross. The everything bagel was beyond tough to chew. The walk up stand with girls not giving correct orders as well. This star doesn't apply to the owner but his incompetent staff! Left Niantic and went to Cohens bagels they are number one!

The food here is great, but it's not that difficult to toast a bagel, cook some breakfast meat and eggs, put it together with some cheese and there you go. To say the place is pricey now is an understatement. For 3 breakfast sandwiches (two Niantic and a Shoreline), and two iced coffees, with tax and tip, came to $60. Thanks but no thanks.

I always love the food that is served here considering it’s made every single day and always comes out really hot. I thoroughly enjoy the service of the people who take your order through the window outside. The downside is being outside during the cold months. It gets really busy and crowded people wait outside and 25°. There’s no inside to stand in. I understand it’s small location… it would be nice to have an warm area to sit or stand in while waiting.

Mom and Dad have been wanting to try this place after hearing great things about the place; however they are located quite a distance away from where we're at. Distance isn't a factor of any of the stars, though it will come up later.How did I decide the overall rating? I asked them both separately and determined the average between the two of them for the ratings I couldn't decide since I wasn't there. The only one that had three inputs was on food, since there was a bag of bagels here when they came back. Let's get into it:Firstly, the food is nice! I agree with dang near every positive review of the product. Deke's has a nice selection that any bagel enjoyer would enjoy. They don't taste like a run-of-the-mill Dunkin. You can tell the bagels were made with more attention and care than DD. I personally enjoyed the onion powder one, it was fairly nice.Next, the average score for the service is unfortunately a 2. With all of the positive impact the food had on myself and the others who ate, it stinks to have to give a lower rating. The reasoning, in my opinion, is fair to bring up. My parents ordered 12 bagels, a fair dozen. Three of one flavor, 3 of another, 3 of one more, and the others were each a different flavor from that. They had only one of the garlic bagels left, which meant they had to sub in two for another flavor. None of this is due to the place itself, I understand that there might not be a certain flavor or item left especially if it's popular. But what I would say is fair would be mentioning that they both came home and opened the bag finding only 11 bagels. Since we live a relatively longer distance away from the establishment, it's not something we can justify going back just to pick up a lost one. This is where I had to dock the rank a peg. And sure, my parents could have decided to check the bag, but we typically operate on the honor system. They order 12, the bag is heavy, we think 12. From what I gathered talking to my parents, the rest of the service was pleasant. They both decided they'd likely not go again since the first visit was one they were shorted.Next, the atmosphere. Again, this is something where I physically wasn't there to take note of. I asked them for their opinions and they just said it was just another oitside window order place. Nothing there to be offended by, but nothing to write home about either. I would be willing to bet the two of them didn't pay much attention to the atmosphere since they typically don't anyway. Take the atmosphere rank with a grain of salt.Lastly, for the overall rating, their average score turned out to be 3 stars as a result to everything mentioned above. If I'm physically in the area one day, I would like to leave a personal review myself. But for now, all I can do is a review based majorly on other people's firsthand opinions.

Food is a 5/5 IF they do it right. I went the past 3 days. First day great experience. Second day I got 2 bagels and only ate half of one because they put next to no cream cheese on it. So was a 2/5. Third time food was great. However, on the third day I waited for 45 minutes. I was never told that there would be a wait! Let alone 45 MINUTES FOR ONE BAGEL. I understand if you are understaffed but you have to tell people a wait time. This ruined my day and messed up my work. I was told 1-2 minutes and it took 10-15 more minutes after I specifically said I had to leave. I would not go out of my way for this place because it shows how little they care about their customers.

Very disappointed to leave this type of review but it took 4 tries to get my order correct. I ordered an everything bagel with plain cream cheese and lox, and an egg bagel with cream cheese, neither toasted. I received "the lox" with scallion or chive cream cheese and the egg bagel as ordered but both toasted. Went back to the window and explained the issue. Clarified, plain CC and lox only. After remaking both bagels I received an ok egg bagel and the exact same "the lox" again. Back to the window. Explained again. Plain CC and lox. Nothing else. She took my bagel and returned proclaiming everything should be good now! So I opened the bagel to check to find the same bagel, now sans tomato (somewhat) and onions. Still with the scallion/chive cream cheese and capers. Then I was ignored until someone else came to help me who ultimately remade the bagel correctly. Which was very good.I also confirmed on the receipt that it was entered as plain CC.I was really looking forward to the trip down for this and I ended up with more aggrivation than food.

I’ve never left a bad review like this before - we’ve had their bagels before and they’re not bad, but they are usually really slow which isn’t always a problem. My husband waited there for a dozen bagels that he placed an order for 30 minutes - him and everybody else standing in line had to keep repeating their orders to the pick up window and customer after customer were told that the bagels that they had already paid for were sold out. all of the bagels that he already purchased were sold out when it was his turn to pick up / his name was called, so he in turn asked for a refund. The gentleman said that he can’t do refunds, and instead just gave him some cash…. that can’t possibly be legal for a business to do? and the cherry on top is that the cash they gave him was less than he had paid…. really disappointed.

If your order doesn't take an hour, and you manage to get the thing you ordered, the food itself has a 70% chance of being decent. The problem is getting what you ordered in a timely manner.
