This review is a part of my quest of visiting all CT breweries. Black Hog brewery holds one of my favorite beer fests in CT on their grounds (barrel aged beer fest), so I've been here before. But this was my first dedicated visit to the brewery itself.
The brewery occupies a big building, and they made renovations over time. During my last visit, the layout of the place changed, allowing them to move some tables to a nicer area. There's not that much space available for customers - several tables inside and a patio area outside. No food is served, but there are food trucks onsite.
I tried almost all Black Hog beers before, so this time I mostly topped off the ones I missed before. You can't order a beer flight, but short pours are available, so it's easy to try as many beers as you want. There's always a variety of styles available on tap. Their beers are solid choice, I can't complain about any one I had. My favorites are Disco Pig Barrel Aged Oud Bruin (barrel aged sour) and Leaves a Mark (Imperial Stout). Both are rich in taste and memorable.
As a summary, I will recommend this brewery to any craft beer enthusiast. Especially, if you have a love for barrel aged beers.
I recently moved to Oxford and was really looking forward to checking out the two big local breweries everyone talks about. I love visiting breweries but both times I’ve tried to go, they’ve been closed, even though their hours still say they’re open on Google and Apple Maps.
And to make it worse, Black Hog had a private event on October 11 and didn’t bother to update their hours anywhere except their own website. Seriously? If you know people use Google Maps to check your hours (which literally everyone does), update them there too. Nothing more frustrating than showing up excited to grab a beer, only to find the doors locked and lights off.
Oxford’s breweries have great reputations, but the total lack of communication is a huge letdown for anyone actually trying to support them.
Awesome place, some of the best beers in CT. The tap room staff are terrific as well, what a neat place to enjoy some beers!
Great little brewery tucked into an industrial park. Wide selection of beer styles, nice space, and helpful staff. Beers to go, as well. Just wish I didn't live so far away from here.
Cold pizza is my go to bear
The staff is super friendly
Great spot to hang watch the game
And grab a bite from the food truck 🦞👌 🔥
I'd like to let people who are considering Black Hog Brewery for their event that Alexis, the Event Coordinator is absolutely phenomenal! It was refreshing to experience a company who employs people that truly care about others and demonstrate the epitome of what customer service should be. They are also affordable and accommodating to your specific event vision. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Our first visit and great beer, had X an IPA and the Breaktime IPA, both were very good and my wife loved their Leaves a Mark their barrel aged stout.
Excellent time, great food, and slushies on a hot day, live music.. best time out in a while!
Beer is good but we are saddened that they will no longer have the card purchase for $50 for 11 beers. It was a good value. This may deter us from coming. If it is not working for black hog maybe raise price of card a little? We love the beer but beer is becoming expensive at all of the breweries. May stop coming out to the establishments unfortunately.
Love the beer, love the staff, plus they have pinball!!
Staff is very friendly! Great ambiance! Fun games and trivia. Love the Staycation IPA! Not too thrilled with children and dogs running around. Otherwise, a great experience!
