Big Y Supermarket in Plainfield, CT deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. Over my 18 years of patronage, it has consistently proven to be my favorite local grocery store. The food is great, ambiance is that of ant store, service at the meat/deli counter is great. However, self checkout is quite a big win for big y and a loss and a scam for customer's. Get more cashiers I am insulted when they ask to check my slip after self checkout!

I really love the home town environment of the store. And I really love the fresh seafood... When it's fresh... All the employees are well trained and the feeling of family in our town is very comforting to me. But.. My experience yesterday was bad. I think it's a beautiful store but when I was confronted by an employee from self checkout if I payed for things. It really bothered me. Oh I'm just doing my job she said... Well too bad. I pay for all my things always and I buy expensive seafood almost every week and for her to question me was a very big insult. This is why I don't shop at Walmart. Their stores are dirty and they think everybody steals. It was nice to shop at Big y but from yesterday they are turning into Walmart and I don't want to be questioned when I shop. Such an insult.

I came to get balloons for a birthday party- granted it was a holiday weekend- and the struggle to get an associate over to the floral area was enough to make me want to leave. When an associate did finally come over she was the rudest person I've ever encountered. She was not friendly, audibly sighed through out the entire process, and condescendingly told me i should have called ahead (12 balloons was my order- plain colored balloons). This ain't the first time I've had an issue with their floral department. 0/10

I generally enjoy shopping here. The other day I needed pizzas for a party in a pinch, though they were very busy they still managed to squeeze in our order. The pizzas are good prices and large portions, enough for a big family like mine. Pick up was quick and easy. Would recommend their pizza for big parties when you need the food for a good prices.

Big Y, Becky has done a fabulous job with the cake I ordered for a friend at work. The purple flowers were so detailed and everything else blended in so well!! Thank you Big Y as nd Becky and your staff!! Big Y has the best service!!! love the help I get from the meat dept and Bakery!! I want to give Becky a thumbs up on the Sunflower cake she made for me!! Donna is always helpful too!! Hats off to all of you! Thank you for all you do!

Store Manager John Connolly has come through for us over the years and yet again with his fine team from lamb to grass fed to Raspberries to whatever makes our Covid safe friends who shop for us —-safe. We can’t thank enough his excellent leadership, integrity of work ethic, genuine care of customers’ needs. His service has been consistently near stellar. Special thank you to Sara, Abby, Produce Team, Meat Dept, Seafood Depts and customer service through these very stressful times. God bless HR for job well done hiring these Ace employees. The Produce Manager, Ryan, has been a pattern of disappointments and failures in our first hand experiences; very deficient in people skills, and lack of care towards customers. Because of him we directed much our produce shopping to shop rite and stop and shop, some very limited selections Walmart. Our circles enjoy quality produce AND staff that care about their customers and happy with their employments.

This was probably one of the most miserable shopping experiences of my life. Mind you it's during the corona pandemic. The shelves were bare and this woman who worked in the store was going up each aisles screaming at the top of her lungs. The store is not the cleanest maybe it's the lighting. There was a girl stationed at the door cleaning carts which I thought was great. They had felt arrows taped to the floor. I almost tripped flat on my face as they were starting to come untapped causing a trip hazard. I will return again once the pandemic was over and reevaluate.
