I’ve been taking my mom here for Mother’s Day for the past several years. I am sad to be writing a less than stellar review, but the experience we had today was enough where I will be looking for a new Mother’s Day tradition.
The tea is very good and the tiers are what you’d expect. Some of the snacks are hit or miss, but you are mainly there for the tea.
Our experience went downhill after we paid. We were chatting and sipping on the last of our tea when our server came over in a huff. She interrupted our conversation to loudly ask in front of the whole dining room whether the service we received was “okay”. We all look confused and taken aback and say the service was fine.
She then points at my sister who split the bill with me and said “well she left a tip” and then points at me “and you didn’t so, just wanted to make sure the service was acceptable”.
Now, I had left a tip on the reader they brought out to us of 20% and so had my sister.
I told her as much and she seemed to not believe me, as she hovered there for an uncomfortable amount of time reiterating that she didn’t “see a tip” from me.
She leaves the table and comes back a few minutes later to announce that she found the missing tip, and that they were having internet problems so that’s why it didn’t initially show up. She gave a sort of half baked apology and walked off.
While it’s generally not good practice in the service industry to grill customers about their tip anyways, if you are going to do it you better make absolutely sure you have the correct information.
This left a seriously sour taste in our mouths, and despite the cute decor and good tea, we won’t be back after this treatment.

Perfect place for a fun lunch. Not a bad item on the menu and we may have tried all of them between the group. Make a reservation, grab a hat, and chug some tea with friends(and the queen).

My visit at 'The Old Mill English Tea Room ' was a great experience. I brought my girlfriend there for a surprise birthday lunch because she loves tea. OMG! We enjoyed it so much. Beginning with our greeter and home owner Heather and our hostess Cheryl. Although even the other hostess was just as pleasant and stopped at our table to ask if we were okay. They all really welcomed us. We started out with picking a hat to wear to our tea and took pictured with Queen Elizabeth (cardboard stand). It just started the ambience of a delightful tea luncheon. Needless to say, we will be going back again, and again.

Beware they’ll bring the card machine to you to pay and it defaults to a 35% tip which includes the CT sales tax already . So it’s an extra cash grab. It’s bit awkward to adjust the tip amount with the staff hovering over you
