📅 11.13.25 *WRITTEN REVIEW Big Al’s Reel Reviews - EP.180 Whitecrest Eatery 💎 (Velvet Mill - Stonington Borough, CT) Tonight I headed back inside the historic Velvet Mill for my next food adventure and Whitecrest Eatery did not disappoint. Founded in 2019 by husband & wife team Johan Jensen, a Danish born, British-trained chef, and Abby Hamann, a Connecticut native, Whitecrest focuses on fresh, high-quality ingredients and dishes that are handmade with care. You can seriously feel that philosophy the moment the plates hit the table/bar. I grabbed a seat at the bar, and the place was packed. The atmosphere was low-lit, warm, bustling, with high ceilings and beautiful décor that makes the Velvet Mill such a standout setting. Service was handled by a small three-person team: Liz (manager)- friendly, welcoming, and a supporter of Big Al’s Reel Reviews Amber (my bartender/server)- attentive and on point Jocy- helping run the floor Even with a full house, they kept everything moving smoothly. Service was bomb.💣 Now let's talk about the Food: 1️⃣ Steamed Wild Maine Mussels- $16 💣 BOMB The sauce- cream fraîche, herbs, Weissling, and lemon was addictive. Mussels cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and the sourdough they make in house and served with it was the perfect pairing. A strong bomb right out the gate. 2️⃣ Béarnaise Burger- $22 💣 BOMB Burger came out perfectly cooked bright pink inside, juicy, seasoned right. Alone, it’s a thumbs-up… But then the tallow fries hit. These fries are soft, hot, insanely flavorful, and some of the best fries I’ve had anywhere. The fries elevated the entire plate into a straight bomb. 3️⃣ Roasted Duck Breast- $36 💣 BOMB This dish was incredible. Duck breast cooked perfectly, tender, rich, and beautifully plated. The potatoes were absolutely amazing, and every bite delivered. I was full, but I wanted more. Another full bomb. ⭐ FINAL VERDICT: WHITECREST EATERY IS AN OFFICIAL BIG AL’S 💎 GEM SPOT 💎🔥 Every dish: bomb Service: bomb Atmosphere: bomb Experience: bomb That makes two Gem Spots inside the Velvet Mill 💎 Dock 9 and 💎 Whitecrest Eatery. If you’re in or near Stonington Borough, this place is absolutely worth checking out so get your a** down there right away, and make sure you tell ’em Big Al sent you! To the Whitecrest Eatery Team: Thank you, I had an amazingly Dope dining experience ❤️ ☝🏾❤️ - Big Al Mayo “See you on the Rebound, Peace✌🏾out”

Celebrated my daughter’s 2nd Birthday for a small lunch with family. Delicious food and great low key lunch vibes. The cod open face sandwich and burger were spectacular!

It is one of our goto places....every item on the menu is excellent. You cannot go wrong no matter what you order. You will be pleased....food is always top notch and fresh. Drinks selections are good...both alcoholic and non alcoholic options. The sourdough bread is out of this world...always have to buy a loaf to take home when we visit.
The wait team is always friendly and accommodating to any special dietary needs or requests.
We recently had our daughter's rehearsal dinner there and could not have been more pleased with the food and service.
Highly recommend for a date night family dinner or larger get together. They are one of the best.

If you enjoy classy dining experiences on the shoreline, then check them out. Liz was super helpful in getting us started, and the food was worth our drive.

I had my own Ratatouille moment biting into the Brussell sprouts. Cheers to the whole crew at Whitecrest Eatery!!

We headed to Stonington for the afternoon and stumbled upon this hidden gem. It’s literally hidden in unique upscale factory called the Velvet Mill that houses various small businesses like coffee shops, brewery, art work, antiques, etc.

Upon arriving, we were greeted with a warm smile welcoming us and brought us to our table. We were given a quick history of the place and their offerings. We shared their fish and chips, roast beef sandwich, and panko fried flounder. All incredible flavors and beautifully plated dishes. We ended the lunch with and cardamom cinnamon bun that tasted like autumn. Warm and perfect amount of sweetness.

We can’t wait to return to try their dinner menu and check out the shops. We loved our entire experience from arrival to dessert. Staff was incredible and very happy to have us and excited for us to be there. Set a date and get excited, you’re in for a great treat!

Great modern exceptionally well prepared food. This located in the kinky Velvet Mill which has loads of pop up like shops, art, bakeries, beer hall etc. Whitecrest brings big city style food with nice bar. Worth the visit and for us locals a go to.

My wife and I have been here three times, and after the third we both agree that this is our favorite restaurant in the entire state of Connecticut.

We have tried a large variety of dishes and every one is spectacular. The menu rotates, but we both recommend the buffalo brussel sprouts and the steak frites, which seem to be pretty consistent features.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We particularly appreciate Abbey, one of the co-owners, who helped us organize our post wedding celebration dinner (yes, that's how much we love this place).

If you ever find yourself near Stonington, you cannot go wrong with stopping by for dinner.

The food was creative and reasonably priced. Our server was very nice, and the noise level not too high.

This review is long overdue! A few weeks ago we traveled from Fairfield up to the casino for two nights. Desperately trying to find some decently healthy food, I luckily discovered whitecrest... my two boys and I headed there for dinner where we met Abbey and her amazing staff and had the BEST and SEED OIL free meal. The chicken cordonblue was sooooo amazing. The Brussels sprouts, everything really. Abbey gave me a loaf of sourdough to try and it was such a nice break from making my own sourdough to actually be able to enjoy a loaf without the work. I kept telling her we'd be back the next day (it was about a 30 min drive from the casino) I took some pannacotta (spelling?) to go for my sister and brother in law to try who were also staying at the casino.. one bite of it and they decided they'd come back with us the next day haha. We spent the next day exploring the velvet mill and while we sipped some beer from the brewery, we ate SOURDOUGH pizza from back door pizza (which abbey also owns) and wow. I wish I lived closer because I would venture back weekly. The pizza was so so good. We ended up BACK at whitecrest for dinner where again, everything was out of this world. Homemade cheesecake ice cream. I literally dream of it daily.

I recommended both places to my girlfriend who took her kids to mystic yesterday. They did pizza for lunch at backdoor- went to mystic aquarium and then back to whitecrest for dinner! She was impressed and told me she wishes they lived closer too. Anytime I am within an hour distance, I will be back! Hahaha. Drooling thinking about it until then. Abbey (and husband who I haven't met but wow what an amazing chef) THANK YOU 💗 for two wonderful and guilt free places for our family to eat. Hoping more places are inspired and start being seed oil free. Thank you thank you!
