The wait staff was constantly on top of us to take our plates away.. with food still on it. It was very annoying to be interrupted while eating over and over again. The restaurant was not busy. Salmon was a little dry, and creamed spinach was not creamed but sautéed. Crab cakes were average . Onion soup was bland. Wedge salad was average. Best part of the meal was the toffee dessert.

The person who took care of us was very sweet and attentive! Everyone here was very friendly! I had the onion soup, mussels and sticky toffee pudding, ALL DELICIOUS! Hope to come back soon! :)

First time and totally amazing. Stopped by after a drive around Lake Waramaug. Service by entire staff top notch. Food excellent. Wedge salad and burger with bacon and cheddar. Mom had the pot pie and daughter grilled chicken and fries. Grilled chicken cooked perfect, moist and flavorful. Creme brulee for dessert and daughter had ENORMOUS ice cream sandwiches....Will be back and highly recommend....and perfect outdoor area by the river, magical day. Thank you

I recently had lunch here with my family of 4 and l I was very disappointed. I ordered the butter milk chicken and it was the worst chicken I have ever had. Absolutely zero seasoning and flavor, the most bland food I have ever eaten. It was so disgusting I couldn’t even bring my self to finish the meal.
On top of this the service was horrible, it took over an hour to get our food and we didn’t order any appetizers as well. We also noticed multiple other tables who had the same or more amount of people receiving their food before us.
I have to I was very disappointed and will never be coming back, I hope others do the same.

Definitely worth the trip up to Washington Depot for this historic tavern! We only stopped for a drink and light lunch and it was perfect. Parking can be a little tricky if you come at peak hours so best bet at those time might just be parking on the road and on the bridge and walking to the restaurant which is a quick walk. Definitely recommend the chili is is very hearty and filling and a great bang for your buck!

Sat at the bar recently for lunch and had the BEST fish and chips, the fish was piping hot and the batter shatteringly crispy. Best fish and chips I ever had.

My family and I have been going to G.W. Tavern since I was in middle school. We absolutely love the riverside atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant! The service was quite slow when we went today. Drinks took much longer than expected, especially as it was very slow business this afternoon. Our original server appeared to leave for their shift change, and whoever was meant to take over did not introduce themselves. We were left waiting and confused. We had to flag someone down to ask where our server was. Overall, we were disappointed in our visit.

Service and food here has gone way down hill I’m curious what happened. This place used to be such a high quality, classy restaurant. Such a shame it’s terrible now

We had been at the Bellamy-Ferridy house and stopped by for a late lunch. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 meals were disappointments. The coating on cod fish in the fish and chips I ordered was nice and crisp but the codfish itself was overcooked with no substance or flavor. The two orders of moules frittes consisted of small and basically tasteless mussels, with some unopened and many with barely any edible mussel inside. The fourth diner enjoyed the order of quessadllas. The service was good and the setting was quite nice.

Fantastic food and service. The coffee was very delicious, and the tomato soup was perfect. Our waitress Kim was a complete delight and really created a great experience.

I was excited to try GW Tavern. The location and decor are beautiful, even more impressive than in online photos. The staff is friendly but definitely overworked and too few staff members on. Unfortunately because of this, the service was very slow. Two hours for dinner where diners knew exactly what they wanted and there was no delay on our end. Waited almost 40+ minutes for drinks, well over an hour for food. When food finally arrived it was all fine nothing exceptional but everyone was good with their meal. My filet was overcooked and cut into already which I don't expect at a restaurant such as this but still tasted fine. Facilities also had some issues as one bathroom had no soap, another bathroom had no toilet paper. I heard they had an event at the restaurant the night before so I am hoping that maybe it was just an off night after a busy night the day before.

I rarely write reviews or have issues at restaurants, but felt the need to do so following my experience at this establishment yesterday evening. My mother ordered a club soda which had a really off taste to it. We figured maybe tonic water instead of club soda. Nope. The same strange taste was in all of our softdrinks were delayed due to the need to change the CO2 per our waitress. We communicated the issue to her and while pleasant didn't really apologize or seem concerned. We noticed the table next to ours make the same complaint. Our waitress recommended juice or root beer as the only available beverage options other than water or alcohol so we opted for 3 bottled Stewart's Root Beers. I don't know how this is even possible, but 2 of 3 of them had a different but also awful taste to them. Again, our waitress was pleasant when informed of the issue but not apologetic with an air of disbelief while stating she would remove the beverages from the check which was obvious at this point.
This was our 3rd time and it I cant see ever going back. Another recent review mentioned an issue with the drinking water and a sewage odor in the air the latter of which we also noticed. Not sure if something has changed since our last meal, but something is clearly off and has left a bad taste. literally.
