Opentable Diner

Very nice place. Not a huge menu. The food was good but my roasted Brussels sprouts were more like charred, rendering them virtually inedible. My fault for not bringing it to the server's attention. The pork chop was perfectly cooked and had nice flavor.

A great little restaurant with an imaginative menu, cozy ambiance, responsive service and unhurried pace. Exactly what the doctor ordered to treat daily angst.

Our dinner was extremely disappointing. We made reservations two weeks in advance for a party of sex for a special birthday celebration for my daughter. When we ordered initially only one person at the table got a glass of wine. The five of us had water. When the waitress took our order, it took them a little bit of time to get out our appetizers. Which were disappointing to say the least the soup was deconstructed French onion soup as we expected, but the flavor was unbalanced both the Caesar salad and the apple pear salad were extremely overdressed swimming and dressing. Then when our dinners came, they were cold. We did have to wait a good 30 minutes for dinner and they clearly sat under a heating lamp because my daughter‘s paella had a film over the top of the sauce, which meant it had gotten cold. Two sets of french fries were stone cold. My salmon, and my mashed potatoes were both cold. Two dinners were never even brought one of them halfway through the meal and then the last one was brought when everybody else had finished and that too was already cold. I find an excuse of the kitchen was very busy to be a very poor excuse for a well named restaurant. Clearly the waitress forgot to put in the orders or they legitimately sat for 45 minutes and never were served on time. The manager did come over to apologize I'm brought six glasses of Prosecco thinking that would take care of their mistake. Nobody at the table drink, except one and one was under age. The meal of the paella was taken off the menu, however still having to pay in an untimely manner to be extremely unacceptable. I will not recommend the Charles as a restaurant again nor will I go back.

We had a tremendous dinner. Crab cakes, Scoth egg, beet salad and French onion soup for appetizers were great. Dinners were filet, steak frites, lamb shoulder pasta and pappardelle bolognese. The drinks were very good as was the wine. Service was good - there when we needed but left us to eat and socialize otherwise.

The food was only OK at best, which is not what you expect at this price point. The "rice cake" served with the paella was an eggy, mushy mess that reminded of an odd quiche and the gnocchi was a dense and gummy.

If you have the opportunity to dine at The Charles, grab it! The ambience, food and service is like none other! Get there is holiday season!😊

The restaurant is beautiful, especially now with the Christmas decorations. Staff was very friendly. The lemonade with cherries was delicious. Our food took a long time, we arrived at 12:05 and had an appetizer, and then I finally asked a passing server (not ours) about our food at 1:05. Also the bread pudding wasn't warm - the bottom of the dish was freezing.

Nice ambiance. Encourage having a reservation; no issue with a later lunch. Cosy space, not optimal for tired children. Tuna melt was tasty. Seasoned fries were hot. Ruben Sandwich was lacking sauerkraut and was marginal with the sauce.....still tasty. The side garden greens were fresh and enjoyed the dressing.. I'll be back to try the monthly tea service.

Lovely building outside and in. Very nice service staff. Would have easily been a 5 if not for extra delayed dessert. The table waiter was great and the other staff servicing the table were excellent. Onion soup apps were enjoyed by all. Table b read was great. Ricotta cheese app didn't have enough bread and not as flavorful as could have been. Salmon entrees were great, pasta entrees were good. Drink service was great. I'd recommend it and happily go again and shoot for 5-5 across the board.

This was our first visit to The Charles. The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding. The French onion soup was an unusual but delicious rendition. The bread was outstanding as well and it was nice to have good old fashioned butter to accompany it rather than the flavored butters, bean spreads and olive oil that so many restaurants seem to favor these days. We are not opposed to those things but it was nice to have a quality butter that didn't mask the flavor of the delicious bread. The only minor issues we had was with dessert. We shared a peach apple crumble and the crumble topping was not prepared correctly. It was delicious all the same, however, whoever made it did not incorporate the butter into the flour mixture properly so we ended up with a powdery topping instead of a crumble topping. It was still delicious regardless but would have been better had it been prepared correctly. As a whole our meal and service were outstanding and we will be back.

The food was tasty as always but the waiter and staff rushed us our entire meal. It was frustrating. I noticed they did it to other tables as well.

Overall everything was very good. Some of the sandwiches were not as tasty as expected (French dip and Reuben) the bread was on the burnt side and hard to eat. Wait staff were good but, a little scattered (maybe understaffed?). Ambience was great. Wonderful spot for a family gathering.

A very pleasant spot for lunch. I can recommend the fish and chips and the Charles Burger. Also the sandwiches are all good. I like that you can sub a green salad for fries. Overall a fine place in a cool and walkable little town!

The food choices were minimal and too many of them had pork in them. The flavor of the food was 50-50, my friend did not like either of her choices and I did not mind mine. I think $19 for a medium size Philly cheese steak sandwich and a side of greens is rather overpriced. The service was very good. It does have a handicap ramp, but it's rather long and it and the floors were somewhat slippery, especially while using a cane. I can't fill in the next at least two questions because most of the choices say great.
