First time going here. Nice location, decor and atmosphere. Service was ok, but sadly the food was disappointing . The bread and butter was really the best part. The ricotta appetizer was good, it could have been better without the pickled grapes, and the french onion soup was mind blowingly strange and unappetizing, served in a bowl and not a crock, 3 small cheese perogies sloshing around in beef broth, and there was no melted cheese over the top. The caesar salad had a strong anchovy taste and lacked garlic, and the harvest orichette pasta was undercooked. The Pork chop was tough, and lastly the Mac and cheese side was ok tastewise, pasta was also undercooked. Drinks were ok. Overall, it was overpriced and we will not be returning.

We celebrated our 11th anniversary here and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The team surprised us with a handwritten card signed by everyone, seated us at a private, secluded table, and even comped one of our desserts. The food, service, and attention to detail were flawless. It felt thoughtful, personal, and truly special from start to finish.

We have been to The Charles on quite a few occasions. Usually for drinks and appetizers sometimes lunch. It is a charming place. Stopped in for lunch yesterday. The service was very good and friendly. Unfortunately the “restaurant made” corned beef was absolutely flavorless. It was also an odd color. The sauerkraut was left off mine, the waitress did bring me some cold sauerkraut on the side. The fries were ok, but not crunchy. I was disappointed, should have gotten a burger

My husband and I are from out of town and we’re visiting for a business trip. I found The Charles on instagram and very delighted by our dinner here.

We started with the beet salad and side of local mushrooms with bread for our appetizers.

My husband had the Berkshire Pork Chop which was delicious and perfectly cooked. The side of potatoes and Brussels sprouts were very tasty as well.

I had the Chicken & Dumplings (gnocchi) which was delicious. I LOVED the lemon butter mustard sauce!

The historic home, now a restaurant, has a beautiful old New England charm and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

The food was excellent! We were seated near the fireplace which was very cozy. Our server was attentive and our food arrived quickly. I love that there are a lot of vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu.

Consistency has really gone down hill over the past year. Steak frites was unseasoned, undercooked and just bad. $15 cocktail was not smoked and tasted like an Arnold Palmer. Charles in charge cocktail wasn’t even cold. The service was extremely underwhelming.

Lovely building outside and in. Very nice service staff. Would have easily been a 5 if not for extra delayed dessert. The table waiter was great and the other staff servicing the table were excellent. Onion soup apps were enjoyed by all. Table b read was great. Ricotta cheese app didn't have enough bread and not as flavorful as could have been. Salmon entrees were great, pasta entrees were good. Drink service was great. I'd recommend it and happily go again and shoot for 5-5 across the board.

Overall everything was very good. Some of the sandwiches were not as tasty as expected (French dip and Reuben) the bread was on the burnt side and hard to eat. Wait staff were good but, a little scattered (maybe understaffed?). Ambience was great. Wonderful spot for a family gathering.

Had a great time at The Charles with my coworkers! The vibe was warm and welcoming, and everything—from the food to the service—was spot on. We tried a mix of dishes and honestly, not a single bite disappointed. The staff was super friendly and made us feel right at home. Definitely a place I’d go back to, whether it’s for a chill dinner or something a little more celebratory.

My girlfriends and I spent a day in Wethersfield, and had dinner consisting of apps. My friends split the beet salad, and we all split the deviled eggs, truffle fries, chicken croquettes, butternut arancini and I had the French onion soup. Everything was delicious but let me tell you what, I will be dreaming of their take on French onion soup for the rest of my days until I can visit again. It’s a rich savory beef broth, with caramelized onion and Gruyère pierogis, topped with a crunchy layer of cheese. It was unlike anything I’ve ever had before. The cozy vibes of the restaurant were perfect for a cold November night. 10/10 will be back for a visit next time I’m in CT!

We love The Charles! Service is always really kind and welcoming, atmosphere is cozy, and the food is consistently delicious. I recently tried the Harvest Orecchiette pasta and it was unique and tasty. I’m still thinking about it! The sausage appetizer is a fav too. Oh and their pumpkin beers have a cinnamon sugar rim. If you’re a pumpkin beer fan, this is a MUST TRY. It’s pure Fall in a glass!

Also worth mentioning is their super well priced and thoughtful kids menu. Our kids love the food and we love that they can come along with us. You really can’t go wrong with a visit to The Charles!

There were 7 of us. We had the deviled eggs for an appetizer. They were a little spicy and tasetd amazing. 3 of us ordered Paella which received rave reviews. Also the chicken and dumplings were paired with an amazing sauce. Two of us were vegans and the variety of dishes was good. Food was great. Our waiter, Ash, was amazing. He offered advice about the food and wines. He was very attentive and had a great personality and smile! The ambiance was delightful with soft lighting at the tables. The exterior was very festive and inviting. I definitely recommend.
