Food was excellent. Service was very good, but she probably had too many tables. Kitchen was slow...1/2 hour to get apps then entrees before we finished apps.

I was disappointed! My server Chloe was great! I ordered the chicken and dumplings and the chicken was overcooked and cold! The manger came out and didn't really seem to care! Offered me nothing other than to take it off the bill which is expected! Chloe was the one who offered me dessert! I think because it was before the storm they were overwhelmed! But very disappointed!

Beautiful establishment with parking both in the lot and on street. Stylish and quaint decor with a great bar area too! The server was on top of everything and accommodating. I had seen their menu online and it differed from the actual menu in hand. I asked if one item in particular was available and she said no, apologized and went to the kitchen to see if they could do something. The kitchen accommodated us. All the dishes were well thought out, well executed and interesting.

We had a 7:00 reservation on a Thursday night & we're seated at 8:15. While 2 complimentary apps hit our table as we were sitting down it would have been more reasonable to offer us that when we were waiting-without apology-for an hour & 15 minutes. The server we had was a lovely young lady named Ava & tried to make up for our rocky start but honestly we weren't even hungry or even able to enjoy the rest of the evening at that point.

First of all, it is a lovely restaurant, very cozy on this cold and damp day. We made a reservation and were offered a choice of tables when we arrived. One next to the fireplace, or one a little further away. Our waiter was very attentive without being intrusive. He was very knowledgeable when we asked about the wonderful dishes offered. We ordered Scotch eggs and Homemade Ricotta with toasted baguette to start. Simply amazing. The Scotch Eggs were definitely the best I have ever tasted. We also shared the Pear and Apple salad which was equally delicious. Our entrees were beyond anything we had anticipated. The Charlie Burger was perfect. Every bite delicious. I got the Potato Salad instead of pomme frites (this time) it was super fresh and exactly what I was hoping for. The Sunday Sauce is something that must be tried at least once before you die. Our compliments to the chef and the entire kitchen staff. It is 100% a must if you're planning a night out. If the rest of the menu is as well prepared as our meal, you shouldn't be disappointed. Thank you to the entire staff , hope to see you again.

Service was a little poorer this time there. Reserved table had been given to someone else. Our waitress never introduced herself and completely forgot about us for dessert. I was able to flag her down then and otherwise she was attentive.

This was our first time to The Charles and it did not disappoint! Everything from the decor and ambiance to the service and food was amazing. The only "issue" was with the fries that came with the steak frites. The steak was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Our appetizers were delicious. So there was a mild sense of disappointment biting into a relatively bland french fry considering the care and skill that clearly went into the rest of our meals. Still a 11/10 though!

I don't know if they were short of staff or what but it took a long time to get our food. Waiter admitted he had tables upstairs, our table was downstairs. Just wasn't a great experience overall. The food was overly spicy. I'm talking just salad dressing. Don't recall it being that way in the past.
