We were hungry heading north from VA, and my wife found this place on Google map which has a high rating. And it's location is not far from our route. The inside of this establishment is nice, but needs a bit of updating since seat cushions were worn from use, and the decor was nice but could also benefit with some updating. As for our meals, we totally enjoyed everything. Prior to receiving our plates, they gave us some very delicious freshly baked bread. We both loved this warm start. I ordered their cheeses teak. It was very delicious, tasty, well put together and very filling. They use a different cheese from other cheeses tears and the meat flavor and texture was very good. My wife said meal was just as good. We were both full when we left. Our hostess was great. She was attentive and friendly and worth the tip we gave. This establishment does not provide a receipt after you pay, if you want one. BTW, we noticed that this location was the object of television chef Robert Irvines restaurant remodel several years ago.

Ordered the southern grill cheesesteak. It’s suppose to come with mushrooms, hot and sweet peppers and pickles. The cheesesteak came with none of the advertised items. Nowhere in the description did it say the cook adds lots of mayonnaise and ketchup, nor did I order mayo or ketchup. Yet my cheesesteak was covered in both. Worst cheesesteak in Delaware. Go elsewhere

Been here several times, was good several years ago, now going down hill!! Service good, food not that good. Kept going back thinking maybe bad day, or hoping a change, over priced for the food and not worth the money!! Love driving the distance to Emma’s in Greenwood!! Definitely worth the ride or Georgetown Famiky Diner. Very good food at those places. A local, near the Southern Grill, wouldn’t recommend!!

This place sucks…. Every time we go there they’re out of this out of that. .. stopped in for breakfast/ lunch it was 11:17 and they had no home fries?….. and I requested a bowl of soup and the waitress says it was too early?…. The food has gone down hill since restaurant impossible helped save them…. Used to be good but those days have passed

We wanted lunch, but it was 11 am and they only serve breakfast until 12 noon. I got chipped beef on toast that came with fried potatoes. The potatoes tasted like they were cooked in lard and the chipped beef tasted odd too. No coffee refill. My son got a western omelette which came with the same awful fried potatoes. This restaurant used to serve good food, but not today. Maybe it is under new ownership? Servers are not friendly at all. This restaurant has changed.

We hit this spot up on our way home from Rehoboth Beach. We would absolutely go back. We arrived at around 11:30 so they were still serving breakfast. We had our eyes on the fried chicken so we decided to wait to order. Our 7 year old wanted French toast so we order the mini classic combo for her. As well as 3 orders of cheesy grits to hold us over. The French toast was a sizable slice of baguette style bread cooked to perfection, she didn't even ask for maple syrup! The sausage was really really good and a nice chunky portion. Cheesy grits passed the test for everyone as we muttered about how good they were. No additional seasoning required. Our fried chicken was delicious. Tender juicy pieces, perfectly seasoned. Collard greens were great. I ordered the limas & dumplings which I didn't care for but they were absolutely homemade with love. I found them to be a little sweet for my taste. Corn pudding was proper. The Mac and cheese was some of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. A beautifully light, & fluffy bechamel with mild cheesy flavor: bonus points that the noodles were not overcooked. Our friend ordered the turkey club with their house roasted turkey which he gave an A+. Another friend ordered the crab soup. It was a little thick, think chunky bisque, but still flavorful, not bland as other reviews have noted. He enjoyed the potato chunks in the soup. The corn fritters were not what he was expecting. More like a pancake than a fritter but I'm going to chalk that up to a regional difference.

I wanted to write a review because this establishment definitely deserved one with more details. I included a photo of the turkey club because to me it demonstrates a chef who cares about the presentation & quality of their food. All of the staff were cordial and we appreciated that they moved into their lunch menu a little early for us. My only suggestion is they should add an option on the menu where you can order several sides together as a meal. They had so many more we wanted to try!

The staff was friendly. The online menu was out of date with the prices. I had a crab cake and cream of crab soup, same as my wife.
The crab cake had some kind of breaded crust, and was okay, but no way did it taste like a Chesapeake region crab cake. As for the cream of crab soup, do not waste your money as it was very bland, and had few to no pieces of crab in it. I threw that $8 bowl 3/4 full in the trash.
The place has a nice atmosphere and may do well with the other foods, but don't count on a nice seafood meal there.

The food was okay but rather bland. The dining area was NOT CLEAN. The tables and condiments were sticky and greasy.
The fabric table runners were stained and had A LOT of dried up food in and on them. They looked like they had never been washed. There were flies everywhere that were landing on us, the tables, and the food. It was disgusting. I won't go back because cleanliness in a restaurant is important to me. If they allow the dining area to get that filthy, I can't imagine how nasty the kitchen is. This place is using the name of a very, very successful restaurant that used to be a 1/2 mile away on the corner of Rt 113 & Rt 16... even going to far as to use the same odd spelling of "Grille". These are not the same owners and this place was never affiliated with the original Southern Grille. It is nothing like it.
