Back Burner Restaurant & Tavern

Food was delicious as always. Disappointed you ran out of stuff mushrooms and yellow tail but our meals were very good. Ricky was our server and he was great.

Have always had great meals at the Back Burner. I had the pumpkin soup for the first time, in a long while, and it was delicious. You cannot go wrong by going there to eat, lunch and/or dinner. Extremely worthwhile to eat at Back Burner.

Terrible service ... got order wrong and served cloudy water that tasted like dish soap. When we said something “no one likes Hockessin water”. The food was mediocre although my husband said filet was pretty good. Seating at the bar was very uncomfortable. The chairs have probably been there as long as the restaurant and had no support. Definitely not coming back.

Met up with some friends for a late lunch and we had a great time. We all had the pumpkin mushroom soup (delicious!) and then ordered a bunch of appetizers - better cheddar, brussel sprouts and stuffed mushrooms - all were very shareable and excellent! Service was great. We'll definitely be back.

Always an outstanding time, especially Tuesday night with Burger Night $9 burgers!! Not sure how they do it, but tremendous value for a terrific burger. We've been coming here for lunch & dinner for many years and have never been disappointed.

Food was very good. Very long wait time after soup and salads for entree. Waiter was working on tables at far end of Dining room, while another waitress was working all tables around us.We were his only table on that end of the dining room. Tables around us arrived after us and finished eating before We got served. Never checked how our meal was, never came over to clear plates,never asked if We wanted desert, coffee. Too busy on other side of room. Mentioned issues to Manager on way out, She said our waiter is usually better.??She said maybe come back again. Probably not.

Where do I start? We ordered prime rib on prime rib night we got this piece of mystery meat that was covered with gravy. Did not resemble any type of prime rib and we paid a lot of money for it. Basically it was the worst prime rib I've ever had. I'm probably just gonna go to Harry's Savoy and get a good prime rib because obviously back burner does not know how to cut and cook prime rib anymore or they gave us a piece of meat at the end of the day and that was 6 o'clock folks and it was just terrible. We paid for it and left never to come back.

We chose Back Burner because we knew it ‘s a place where you can actually hear, and carry on conversations, and not have to yell! Our food was excellent, Ribeye special and beet salad. It's a cozy little gem!

We have been here several times to celebrate special occasions. Back Burner never disappoints! Food is always awesome! Our server was outstanding!

This is a great place to do a private and quite dinner. Dimly lit, no music. Old fashion decor. While waiting over an hour for our food I walked over to the gift shop. I heard they used to have a lot of good desserts but it was very limited now, however, they did have a lot of meats and cheese you could buy. Crab cakes were the best I've ever had. Menu said Asparagus but were given green beans on my plate, Yukon potatoes were a bit stiff. If I do come back it will be just for the crab cakes to go. Long experience 5:30-8p dining. Expensive dining!

This is most certainly in contention for the worst restaurant in Hockessin. Service is poor. Food is sub par. Attitudes are worse. Arrogance is high. Better food and better attitudes aren’t far away. Save your money.

Ordered the Filet Mignon prepared Medium Rare....it arrived after almost 1/2 hour watiing as nearly Medium Well...did not want to wait another 1/2 hour for redo...Server was inattentive and not-to-be seen along with not sympathetic. Other restaurants would have probably had the manager on duty visit our table.

I went in to have a crab cake and relax after a long day. I sat at the bar looking at the bartender while she was busy talking to a coworker. She never greeted me or asked me what I wanted. I waited and finally left. For what they think are a high end restaurant l will never go back. Terrible customer service. I will let my family, friends and anyone I talk to about area restaurants to never go to the Back Burner. As I scrolled down to read the other reviews most were good. The number one reason for the bad reviews were about terrible customer service. That is an easy fix. In my business career we called that weed and feed. Eliminate the under achievers and hire better skilled employees.
