Pretty good prices for most. Some of the sashimi you can tell is held over. Def don’t go on Monday or Tuesday’s. Guessing their orders come in midweek and Fridays. Ginger salad and miso soup left you wanting. Decent enough for sushi in Middletown de. Nothing special

If I could, I would eat here for breakfast. The teriyaki chicken is so good. And, it was less expensive than other Japanese restaurants. This is a good restaurant for me to stop by on my way to Dover. The booth seating was very comfortable.

We order for takeout every week and dine in sometimes. Everything is always fresh and delicious, and the staff is wonderful too!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: Sushi Yama — Exceptional Food, Warm Service, and a New Favorite in Middletown

This was our first visit to Sushi Yama, and we were completely impressed from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant felt welcoming — clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with just the right balance of modern style and cozy charm. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, perfect for either a quiet dinner for two or a casual night out with family and friends.

The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly— quick to greet us, answer questions, and make sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. The service struck that rare balance of being efficient yet unhurried, allowing us to enjoy every course at a comfortable pace.

The sushi itself was outstanding — incredibly fresh, artfully presented, and full of flavor. Each roll had its own unique character, with perfect textures and thoughtful combinations. We tried a mix of classics and specialty rolls, including the Spicy Tuna Crunch, Dragon Roll, and a chef’s special roll, and every one was excellent. The fish was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the rice seasoned just right, and the presentation was as beautiful as the taste.

Beyond sushi, the kitchen menu offers a wide variety of dishes that show the same level of care and quality. The hibachi entrees, noodle bowls, and tempura appetizers were all perfectly prepared — hot, crisp, and well-seasoned. It’s clear that everything coming out of the kitchen is made with pride and attention to detail.

We also noticed how well the staff worked together — everything ran smoothly, with a quiet professionalism that made the whole dining experience feel effortless. The restaurant is spotless and well-maintained, and even the plating and presentation had a touch of artistry.

It’s always exciting to find a place that values both food and hospitality, and Sushi Yama absolutely delivers on both. For a first visit, it left a lasting impression, and we’ll definitely be coming back whenever we’re in the neighborhood.

If you’re in or near Middletown and enjoy fresh, high-quality sushi in a welcoming setting, Sushi Yama deserves a spot at the top of your list.

The staff are charming and the service is excellent. The place is handsome and clean. I had the chirashi bowl. And strangely all the fish was half frozen and had an earthy, dirt like flavor. I've had a lot of sushi in my day but never anything that tasted like that. It wasn't enticing. The plate was beautifully arranged although it only came with a quarter cup of rice. Maybe it was an off batch?

We're regulars at Sushi Yama! I'm surprised this place doesn't rank higher on the list --We always have a wonderful evening here. My spouse and I sit at the sushi bar -- it's dinner entertainment to watch these masters at their work. The sushi fish is first rate (Secret: Ask for their special roll menu) and the presentation is such a marvel that I often take pictures. Am embarrassed to say that I seldom post, and that's not doing their work justice! We love their special rolls: Manhattan, Mr. Corey, Green River, Tuna Madness. If sushi isn't your thing, there are extensive menu options -- I've had their seafood udon and loved it -- but sushi is the real star. Service is very attentive and friendly. The cost of dinner is always reasonable, so we add on a little extra to tip the chefs. The wines, beers and sakes are a good value as well, and well chosen to balance the menu. My spouse is a serious home cook and when we have a night out, we love going to Sushi Yama because it's so fun and beyond anything we can make at home. You would never know Sushi Yama's so good by the unassuming location. It's out of the way, tucked into a strip, but that's part of the fun of "discovering" it. Just recently, I invited three girlfriends here for a catch-up lunch on a weekend and we're already putting it on the calendar to do it again!
