Today, I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant. My wife decided to take me there for my birthday. I had the chance to try the side salad, and the Shepherd’s Pie. My wife had the sea seafarer’s chowder, the roast beef and we shared the beer batter shrimp. We ordered ice cream and bread pudding it was incredible. Everything was delicious and our waitress was awesome. You really get a lot of food here. We need a doggie bag for the leftovers. If you are in the area please make it a point to stop by and grab some delicious food. My compliments to the chef that prepared our food. We will definitely be back.
We had an OK visit. It is a very charming restaurant. Decoration went well with "colonial fare food". It must be a popular place as it is crowded on a weekday. Most patrons looked like they are from the neighborhood.
Food was definitely unique and different from common restaurant fare. We think the food is so so, the food (pot roast, and a crab pot pie) we ordered did not wow us. We did like it from the "unique" perspective.
We do not drink. We did not sample their renowned beer offerings. Ice creme was great. We had peach flavor. it was wonderful. We liked it.
Jessop Tavern had a great reputation. We had wanted to come for a while. This is just the first time we are nearby. We are happy that we got it done.
We may bring our out of town friends over to walk around New Castle old town and taste this unique Jessop Tavern food.

Service was very slow. Had a 6 pm reservation. Hostess was not at desk until about 10 minutes later. Once seated, waited a while, finally asked hostess to find someone to wait on us. Was there over 2 hours. Food was awesome.

Visiting from out of state I was excited to eat at such a historic restaurant, but the slow service before I could even order help me to choose another. More servers would have made a huge difference.and perhaps I would have spent my money there.

I love the menu here because it's so Colonial. It's all part of the entire vibe of this little section of New Castle. The tavern is not as old as the building which is over 300 years old but you would never know it. This is definitely worth a stop and even more so if you are interested in unique beers.

Roast beef was excellent! Loved the atmosphere - best to make reservations as this place fills up fast!
Had a great time at Jessops! Arrived before dinner rush but had to sit at the bar bc they had reservations coming in, so that was a bummer, but it all worked out bc our bartender Jess was wonderful! She was chatty, quick, friendly & attentive... all qualities you want in a bartender! Some people at the bar were loud & and obnoxious (Jess handled it like a champ), but most were cool.
The food was a pleasant surprise! The crab dip was so good... not heavy or greasy at all! The flat bread is NOT a flatbread lol, but it was deeelicious! I have mussels allll the time & the ones at Jessops were extra good! Would definitely return if I'm ever back in the area!

Make this cute historic tavern a stop on your trip to old New Castle! Great beer selection and cheery efficient wait staff. We had yummy grilled veggie sandwiches!
Vegetarian options: Grilled veggie sandwich featuring portobello mushrooms, onions, peppers and a tasty sauce.
