I visited the Waffle House in Smyrna, DE with my wife for a breakfast date a couple of weeks ago. The customer service was genuinely good—the staff was professional, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit. Their hospitality was one of the stronger points of the experience.
However, the temperature inside the restaurant was extremely cold, to the point of being uncomfortable. It made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal.
The first waffle that arrived at our table was noticeably undercooked, with a doughy texture that suggested the batter hadn’t fully cooked through. The portion size was also surprisingly small, which was unexpected for a place that brands itself as the “Waffle House.” To their credit, the staff promptly prepared a fresh batch, and the replacement waffle was cooked properly. Still, given the restaurant’s name and reputation, I expected their signature item to be consistently excellent from the start.
In comparison, the Smyrna Diner—just a short walk away—offers significantly better waffles and a wider variety of breakfast options overall.
For these reasons, I feel that a 3‑star rating is fair. The service was solid, but the food quality and comfort level of the dining environment left room for improvement.

Look I get it's waffle house. I just wish they would check to make sure the orders are correct before sending them out the door. I only come here like once or twice a year and every single time, the order is missing something. Then I gotta get back in the car and drive to go pick up whatever they inevitably forgot.

I stopped in for a quick bite before getting my oil changed close by. I had just about an hour and my first thought was that I was probably going to be late getting back to the shop. However, the service and server was on point. Minutes upon sitting down, the server brought me coffee, took my order and just a few minutes later my food was in front of me piping hot 🔥. I'm not a huge Waffle House fan, but I would definitely recommend this particular one. Food came out exactly as ordered and hot.

The hashbrowns had a funny flavor. The biscuit was strange and not a biscuit I've ever had before. The bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly.

Foul food. The burger seems to contain all filler and no meat. My hash browns were white and wiggly and undercooked. The worker was wearing a long cardigan that was swinging and touching all the waffles while she cooked them.

This would be a good reality TV show! Shawn is really something.. poor Kimberly working like a dog! And this boy is just YELLIN!! I mean really… come on. Have some respect for your coworkers. If you go, please don’t come from 12:30-1:30 (on sundays at least) :)

The service here was terrible. The waiter didn't care blew off customers, couldn't hear a word he said because of mumbling. Got our drinks wrong, we didn't get menus, we grabbed our own. The poor cook was doing everything. I cannot believe the service from this place. We walked out completely dissatisfied.
